  1. Woo hoo! I remember when i applied for my wa ss and received the same quote saying that my application has been assigned to a case officer. The ball starts rolling really quickly now. They'll ask you for your police clearances and then you medicals and then ... vola! Visa! I reckon you have about 2 - 3 months to go ...
  2. Dianella/Morley. Its central to pretty much everything. 10km to the city, just down the road from Mt Lawley and Leederville, not too far from the Swan River, 13km to the closest beach (Scarborough) ...

  4. I had 3 interviews and 2 job offers in my first week in Perth. I got the job on day 3. I started a new job 3 months later. Paul
  5. Hey Paul1977, I'm also Paul, born in 1977. There is a lot to agree with your above post and some to disagree about it. I'm a plumber like Ian and moved out to Perth in February this year. Yes, its been a pain getting the tradespersons license and doing the 2 week migrant plumbing course and still having to do a 3 week gas course but its part and parcel of the move. Some of the standards might be shocking to some ( I think they're good). Our main reason for leaving London (lived there for 8 yrs) was definately the quality of life for our ourselves and our kids (3&1), the good weather and better work prospects. Currently my family survives on my income only. I earn a pretty average wage of about $70 000 a year and yes, in the beginning it proved to be quite tight some months since the whole relocation sucked us dry but now 6 months in and its getting much better. I worked in London on some big projects like the Olympic stadium and westfield shopping centres and earned average plumbers wages and i admit that there is more of a disposable income in the UK compared to here. But the quality of life here in Perth beats London hands down. The kids love it here and there is so much to do here. Perth is built for family life. Yes perth is farking ludicrioulsy expensive but it just requires a different outlook and lifestyle change to what you're used to back in the UK - you just adjust. We live in Dianella/Morley and pay $400 rent a week for an awesomely spacious 3 bedroom house with a big garden. Back in London we lived in a bloody shoebox. In many ways, Perth does feel pretty backwards in some ways but it certainly does offer a relaxed laid back sunny life with lots to enjoy. After all, WA stands for Wait Awhile. See ya later.
  6. There's plumbing work all over. New builds are being built like hotcakes on the fringes of Perth in both SoR and NoR. What kind of plumbing would you prefer to get into? Mantainance? Residential housing? Commercial? Industrial?
  7. Hey Ian, Long time no hear - perthpoms. Check out this link for some interesting info: http://www.viacorp.com/perth-suburbs-listed-by-median-price.html Get prepared for Perth winters - nights are pretty cold, days are nice and mild. Paul
  8. I'm a plumber, living and working in Perth WA. There is lots of work for Tradies in this part of the world. I personally believe that sparky's have best chances of finding work, and good paying work. Get yourself over here and enjoy the good life.
  9. We are a family of 4 (our girls are 3 and 1) from London and I arrived in Perth in February 2012 with only £10,500 ($15,000). My wife and 2 girls stayed with relatives in Brisbane for a month while I looked for work, a place to live, a car etc. (I stayed with friends for a month). I managed to find a job on my 3rd day and bought a 2nd hand car for $5000 in the second week. It took me a month to find a decent clean 3 bedroom rental property for $400 per week. We shipped over about 8 boxes and no furniture. We've had to buy all new furniture, including a fridge, washing machine, dishwasher, couches, dining room table, drawers, beds and appliances and other stuff as well as tools for my trade. We have pretty much nothing left so now its a matter of slowly building up some savings again. Its been a bit nerve racking living off just my wage but we absolutely love it here. The weather is near perfect, the open space and beaches and the general relaxed vibe is brilliant. We knew it was going to be a bit tough in the beginning but its been worth it. Good luck Paul
