  1. If I go offshore, lodge 457, and return on the SAME visa (I have multiple entry, with 8503 condition) whilst I wait for it to be granted, surely the same 8503 condition that caused me to leave is still in force stopping the actual grant of the 457 to take place, or does that not matter as I was off shore the moment it was submitted? I will follow this strategy up with a MARA registered agent so I can be sure and not gambling on internet hearsay, but thank you for the clarification on these points
  2. hi, thanks for the reply, it is as we thought. How much will you charge for advice on my strategy?
  3. Hi We are both from the UK and due to age (i'm 34) I applied for a e600 year long visa last year to come here with my partner to do the same, due to her age, it was easier and cheaper for her to get a WHV 417 visa. We spent 6 months travelling and she saw a job that was too good to pass and beneficial for her career. I didn't mind not working as we have enough to survive the year anyway and if her job lead to being able to stay then so be it. That time has come and they offering a 457 for her and I. The issue here is I have a 8503 no further stay condition on my visa, so as the partner on the main applicant it looks as if I have to leave for the application to go through. We are exploring ways I don't have to do this, and I have heard visa processing times are taking upto 6 months, we don't think we can be apart for that long. I don't mind hopping over to Bali/NZ if I really need to, but its not feasible for me to wait there 6 months Please help! Her company have already submitted the 457 for us, we didn't realise the condition was on my visa, and a BVA has been approved for my partner and nothing for me, hence I went searching as to why and found it's likely this condition! my current visa runs out end of July :err:
  4. or be frank with your circumstance and ask the DIA if you can get an extension of current visa or just a tourist visa as you want without leaving, as I suspect you can't immediately get a tourist visa whilst on a whv without leaving the shores..
  5. Hi Thanks for the reply, and yes,,I thought as much with regards to quals! Since i've contracted for several years now, I have not had the desire to purchase any new courses and learn on the job instead,,obviously this is a disadvantage now it would seem! I am also certainly holding off applying for any jobs until I arrive, as I can imagine they will not want to employ me and wait till I arrive,,,my IT career so far has always been a case of they needed me yesterday! I am prepared to a take a lesser position, earn less, and work my way up some place...$60k would be nice? let me know if im dreaming! This is just so the pressure is off my partner to pay for our new life, we have savings but would like to live off what we earn. I am hoping the jobs market is buoyant enough for me to fit in somewhere...always a fear of uncertainty in employment when emigrating,,but were not scared of it as were doing it anyway!
  6. I did this in my young twenties and did it a few different ways! I made the initial journey from the UK to OZ, on my own, had an amazing time meeting new people, striking new relationships, and travelling with my new friends in a direction that we mutually found interesting. Then the time may come where they needed to go home, or go west when I was going north etc, so we shook hands, off our own way, and made more friends. Same happened again at the new hostel, and so on and so forth! At some points I bumped/arranged to meet the same people when our paths crossed. It was a pleasant experience. Then I had a friend from uni join me for a 3 month stint which was also good, he brought one friend he made in sydney and I brought one I made in adelaide, and together we went in a car i had bought and did some travelling. Again, it was a means to an end, a way to split the costs, and after a few months one dropped out. I also saw a number of travellers who went as a pair...and without sounding negative, almost all (if not all) ended up splitting up,,.,this included couples in a relationship....I also (being a bit older now) put this down to us all being very young (18-25) and individual at the time. The flip side of this were the mature® twenties gang...the couples, and friends, who were 26+...these people were more mature, committed to their relationships, were often structured & had a plan, partied less, had more money from their real lives before hand, and generally got on with each other throughout their travelling!
  7. when I was backpacking, I started my WA adventure from Darwin, NT. Came across a group of french guys doing a 4wd vehicle relocation, so after a quick sanity test they agreed to take me along too. We spent two weeks travelling across the Gibb River road 4wd track, over to Broome. WOW what an adventure that was! AMAZING,,,Broome again lovely hub of activity and CAble beach is immense. After some casual work I then met a german girl who had a car, and we formed a group and travelled down to perth over the next month....stopping at all the amazing places WA has to offer. This is the real Australia. You miss NT and WA, then you are probably just an east-coast back/flashpacker who spends most the time in Sydney or Melbourne and probably never meets and real aussies
  8. Interesting thread here, I wonder if I get some advice in any direction from you guys I am moving to Adelaide in 3 months as a defacto partner so dont need to worry about sorting the visa with my would be employer, but similarly don't have a job lined up yet. I am british, 32 and have worked in IT support and projects for several years now. Mostly I am 3rd line support or some project technical resource, varied CV, and have contracted for the last 6 years. I've seen and heard of some of the difficulties some people have had, its on my agenda to update my linkedin and get networking, and I am fully aware of the CV/Resume farming techniques that go on in the UK. I guess my question is this, am I going to struggle to find work? I am quite generally skilled, I don't mind taking any step back, will my location (adelaide, s.a) work against me? I have little in the way of professional quals, ITIL v3, and an old CCNA, and a degree. I am a confident person, approachable and easy going, and don't mind taking the challenge of adapting my skill set, or anything in order to be more employable/australian!
  9. hi Iron Chef. I am not sure to start a new thread or tag it onto this. well I will explain so here goes! Me and better half are looking to come to Adelaide (will buy u a beer ) in a few months time. I own a few vehicles but really really want to bring just the one (money wise). This is my VW campervan I have owned since 2011. Its a 1998 VW T4 model and I have spent thousands on doing her up. I have used her every weekend, and sometimes in the week. I take her abroad with me and camp, and have done for the last 3 years,,I have loads of pictures of me and the van! Ive just spent a few grand on respray and few grand on a poptop so looks quite different. We are both emotionally attached to this van and want to keep her forever so will bring her over on the PIS scheme. Few little issues I can see, shes been registered at my mums for years, not my address. I can change the log book asap if needed. Shes currently very clean so im not too worried about quarantine, but I am worried about the ADR, so I may have to change a few things inside to comply, again, im hands on and love to wield spanners etc, but dont want to modify her too much. I have no idea on how much its going to cost us in tax?? as values vary wildy in oz. Also we are currently only going to be awarded a 457 visa. BUT we are working towards a 186 visa, basically the employer is my partners, so not mine, and the vehicle is registered in my name but we both consider her ours! So being the defacto can I bring her over? Is it worth bringing her over on a temp entrance for 12 months then convert that later to permanent (seems to side track ADR a little it woudld seem)? Any specific advice to this kind of vehicle welcome....I wont sell her as there is no equivalent model really.,.though the base models do exist, but no customised version like mine! I also want to bring plenty of spare engine parts..

There is two of going so we could take a car and a van. What do you think. The Mrs has a 120d 2005 BMW 1 series coupe too but we have dismissed that due to value of my care being more and then choosing one van only. That's because you can only take one car each right?!
  11. Do i need to meet the DIACs criteria of 8 though? I am british, 30, and applying for a state sponsored visa 313112, with only getting 10 for ielts i still overall get 65 points,, thats enough right?
  12. I like the sound of this as i know i scored well elsewhere, surely they can't strip points in the other areas, similarly i'm sure if they did they wouldn't go below 8. My concern is if i miss the deadline, on the new system I need all the points i can get, and don't feel happy sitting on the threshold of 65 with my ten points incase something happens and i loose points or the new system doesn't pick me Thanks for your responses people
  13. + 1 that was mine when i did it two weeks ago.
  14. Also i am worried about this deadline, i have an agent, but i havent sent them anything yet, i am struggling to get the references on signed letter headed paper for the last 5 yrs,, so i am yet to get my skills assessed,, and i hear TRA take their time, think i will miss this deadline?
  15. I got 9 in each category except writing where I only got 7 so does this mean I only get ten points? If i get only ten I think i get 65 points anyway, so I should be ok,, but I am finding it hard to find this information out on the immi.gov.au site under the 176 visa. Sorry if this has been asked before.
