  1. Hi guys The job is Student Placement Officer with a university which involves working with employers and supporting students into work placements to gain work experience. I am a qualified careers advisor with 7 years experience in recruitment in the UK so I'm interpreting that this would fall into the CSOL schedule 2 list under 'careers counsellor' or 'student counsellor' http://www.immi.gov.au/skilled/_pdf/sol-schedule1-2.pdf I'm really just starting to look into this, are you able to suggest other visa options I should look at RockDr?
  2. I'm on a WHV but looking for opportunities to stay for longer. I've seen jobs advertised that I am interested in applying for (and qualified and experienced in the field). Generally these are 3 year fixed term contracts. Would anyone know how I am best off going about this? Should I approach the employers directly to enquire about 457 sponsorship before applying for the vacancies? Or should I be contacting immigration or a migration agent for advice? It seems like a real minefield but as some of the vacancies are exactly what I've been looking for and can't find in the UK they seem too good to just let go! Any suggestions? thanks x
  3. Thanks Lebourvellec, I have a car so no bus tickets and I'm staying with the host family on the farm. Do you think it's worth keeping receipts for petrol bought in that area and other touristy things that I've done on days off? It's really concerning me as I keep hearing how strict immigration are getting lately. Would love to hear if anyone has had a similar situation?
  4. Hi all looking for some advice re applying for my second WHV. I'm currently doing unpaid work on a vineyard which I understand is countable towards the 88 days I need to complete for my application. The question is, how do I prove this as I won't have any payslips or bank statements. My 'employer' is happy to complete the 1263 form for me and provide me with a reference but this will be all the evidence I can supply. Does anyone have any experience of this and know if it will be sufficient? thanks
  5. Pack them all in!! I'm currently trying to work out if I can fit in Oz, NZ and Canada before I get too old!!
  6. Hey Pillou, I'm English and in Perth until around Jan/Feb then heading off to do some exploring. My french is horrendous - except when I'm drunk when of course it's amazing!
  7. Hi all, I know you can study for up to 4 months while on a WHV but I'm wondering how that is calculated? I'm looking at doing a distance learning course which gives 12 months to compete but realistically can be done much quicker. The course requires attendance at 7 one day workshops which are spread over 7 months. Technically the course is 'taught' for only 7 days...Does anyone have any ideas where I can research if this is allowed on my visa? thanks
  8. A tad harsh wouldn't you say?! Some of us worked bloody hard throughout our 20s at relationships and careers - doesn't always guarantee an 'established' outcome in either! I'm 30 - just started my Working Holiday and am loving every minute of it, yes I left it 'til the last minute because I blinked and my 20s had vanished! But to be honest I wouldn't have it any other way - ten years ago I wouldn't have had the confidence to do half the things I'm doing now...
  9. HELP!! just moved into my new room in a shared house and have managed to break the electric plug socket...can anyone recommend someone to come and fix this for me that's not going to break the bank?! It's just the plastic that's broken - I'm just south of the river near Canning Bridge, Perth thanks guys!!:arghh:
  10. I tried to scan as much as possible so as not to be weighed down with unneccesary documents. All I've needed so far are my passport and driving licence. If you want to register for medicare when you arrive you'll need a printed copy of your visa but if it was sent to you by email that's easy enough to print when you get here...save space for shoes!!
  11. I've just got here and don't have a return ticket as I've no idea when I'll want to go home or where from so I wanted to remain flexible. I carried a print off of my UK bank balance when I travelled to prove I had sufficient funds to support myself and to buy a ticket home but no questions were asked whatsoever on entry to Oz and my visa was granted in February within 8 hours. The only place I was questioned was at Heathrow by the stroppy check-in lady who felt the need to go and check with her manager that I was ok to travel without a return ticket!
  12. Thanks everyone for the suggestions. It was several years ago when I had doxycycline for Tanzania through the NHS so things may have changed or as I was going to do charity work as a recent (and poor) graduate, maybe the GP took pity on me! Who knows but somehow I got it cheap! Have had friends that used malerone with some pretty nasty side effects so if doxycycline is effective for the area I'm going to I think I'd prefer to stick with what I know. Will check out some travel websites and see what the damage is likely to be Cheers
  13. Hi all Im currently in Oz on a WHV and have an opportunity to pop over to India. This is totally unexpected and while I believe I have had all the necessary immunisations I'm wondering how to go about getting anti malaria drugs. When in the UK I got them on a normal prescription so cost me less than £10. Does anyone know if I'll be able to use medicare for this or if they'll only entertain 'necessary' treatment? If not any other suggestions? Thanks
