  1. Thanks both. We are central Melbourne, Hawthorn Kew area.
  2. Hi all, Can anyone recommend a good kennel in the Melbourne area? We are going away for a long weekend and cannot take our dog with us. I've done a bit of research but find recommendations work far better. Thanks in advance! Jackie
  3. Hello! We thought we could last 8 weeks without a TV while our furniture sailed on the seas! Needless to say we didn't manage and found a free TV on Gumtree. It's been a life saver but now that our furniture has arrived (with TV) we no longer need it. It's an old style TV with big back, around 32cm screen and in great working order (remote included). Let me know if you need one to tied you over. We are in Kew, Melbourne.
  4. Hello. My husband and i have been here 2months today woohoo  But as hubby has been travelling pretty much since we arrived we haven't sorted out a car yet. I think we are going to get a new car eventually but, I have just been offered a job that requires a car as its not in the CBD. Has anyone hired a car long term say one or 2 months and can you recommend a company please? Thanks!
  5. Hi Sarah! Welcome to Melbourne! We've been here 6 weeks and are loving it too! If you ever fancy a coffee in St Kilda let me know. Jackie
  6. No problem Kathy. We have the same thing happening with family visiting in 6 weeks and will be doing our sightseeing then. Have fun exploring!
  7. I know what you mean! We don't have children either so not so easy to meet people if you don't have them. We are really enjoying Melbourne however and are happy with the choice to move here. We have settled in Kew in Melbourne which is a lovely suburb and close to everything. Hubby works in the CBD so easy for him. If you fancy a get together for coffee give me a shout I am happy to meet you half way or in Melbourne.
  8. Hi Kathy, I'm from Aylesbury in Bucks. We are settling in well thanks and I am very thankful for this site as I have met a few really nice fellow "newbies" to OZ so we can compare experiences. I have started looking for a job but not in too much of a hurry. Seek is a good website to have a look at what's out there. Are you here Kathy or still in the UK?
  9. Yhanks Petals, but Sandown beach is specifically a dog friendly beach and open all year around for dogs. It was great fun!
  10. Did you make it to the beach last weekend? We went to Sandown beach the dog friendly one and there must have been around 100 dogs swimming. Jessie loved it by was quite daunted by the amount of dogs, so we're we! We will definitely take her back there again
  11. Hi Glenn, we had her cut quite short as she had to spend 30 days in quarantine in Sydney without aircon in the kennels and I was worried she would really suffer in that heat. The quarantine staff all thanked me for having her clipped as trying to keep a long haired dog clean for 30 days in a kennel run can be quite a challenge. Jessie's fur is growing back and will probably be back to normal come end Feb. we won't clip her again until next Summer but then we will see if she needs it. I think you should definitely bring your boy. He will love the beach!!
  12. We are going to take Jessie to Brighton next Saturday too. Thinking of getting there around 3pm. Temp for next saturday is forecast for 24 so perfect! Maybe we will see you there!
  13. 11am sounds good to me . Michelle sent me her number so I will give her a call this weekend to confirm. Looking forward to it
  14. Hi Glenn, We had Jessie clipped before we sent her as she came before us in December due the rabies law changing on the 1st Jan. She looks a little odd from the clipping but it helps. So far she seems to be handling the heat in Melbourne fine. I would suggest you have a house with aircon so if it does get too hot for her (and you) you can turn it on. We take her for early morning walks and again in the evening from 8:30pm and as you know they sleep during the day so that's enough for her. In total it's cost us around 5k to bring her over. That includes quarantine fees etc. I would recommend using pet air as they were great! Let me know if you have any questions
  15. Hi Glenn, yes! We have a 3 year old Newfoundland called Jessie. Love her to bits
  16. Hi Sam. I take it that you and Michelle know each other? We could go for a lovely coffee and yummy cake at one of the the lane always in Melbourne if you both fancy it? I could meet you both at Flinders Street station and we could go on from there? How does 11am sound?
  17. Hi Michelle. It would be great to meet for a chat! Are you happy coming into Melbourne or I could meet halfway? Jackie
  18. Thanks. I have put a post on Life in Victoria.
  19. Hi. My husband and I have been in Melbourne for 3 weeks. During that time we have found a house to rent and settled in well with our dog. My husband is working during the week and while I am starting looking for jobs am a little bored of being in the house alone all day. I've done lots of exploring (well maybe some) but wondered if anyone fancied meeting for a coffee if they live in the Kew area? It would be great to meet someone who has had the same experiences etc as me. Thanks Jackie
  20. Hi Chris. We have been in Melbourne 6 days and are loving it! Everyone is so friendly and once they know you have moved over permanently will do everything to make things easier for you. The weather is great too! All the best with the move!
  21. Hello, My Newfoundland is currently in quarantine in Sydney and is due to come out on the 16th Jan. We will then fly her to Melbourne but may not have a place with a garden sorted as we only arrive on the 2nd Jan so will possibly have to put her in a kennel  Does anyone know of a good kennel in Melbourne that we can send her too? Thanks:biggrin:
  22. My Newfoundland is out on the 16th so please don't have the expats pet walk before then. We arrive in Melbourne on the 2nd and would love to meet some expats with there doggies
  23. What is Sandhurst like? Can you get to Melbourne CBD easily enough from there? Thanks
  24. Hi Boomerang, I hope you settle well into Melbourne. We are also going to look at Frankston when we arrive. Like you said its better to look at the teas when you arrive. All the best!
