  1. Most jobs like accounting are advertised on seek. Its purely due to the nature of the job. However saying that stats show that 70 percent of jobs are not advertised. Try cold calling through the yellow pages. Bet there is a job there which they have not got around to advertising.
  2. Sorry that's what I have. 50 a month for basic package and sport. I just wanted sport but apparently that's not possible
  3. I have foxtel go on my computer so I just stream most of it through my TV. I am in waramanga. I would love to meet up for some football. Defo CL final.
  4. I meant move anywhere in Australia. That's interesting news. Thanks
  5. Thanks for the answers guys. That's cleared a few questions up. So am I understanding this right that our 2 years in canberra is only tied to a moral agreement and not a contractual? So I can really move anywhere in the act and Don't have to wait 2 years?
  6. My visa has a date of 2018 at which point I need to get citizenship.
  7. I think I have confused myself. After 2 years my restrictions on which state I can live in are removed. As far as I am concerned I am pr as I have been accepted into pr positions and my visa is permanent. I have just worded my initial comment wrong. On a 190 state sponsored is my obligation a moral one or a contractual one.
  8. We got ours 6 months ago and we got it in almost a month. That's was for the act though.
  9. Thanks Blossom I am on a 190 state sponsored visa. I thought i did have a PR actually. Is a 190 permanent and is my obligation to the ACT just moral?
  10. I know this is a bit of an odd question. We have moved to canberra ACT on a state sponsored visa for my partners career. We love the ACT and both have good jobs and have been here 8 months however i have a possible employment option in WA which is a little hard to turn down. I know i am supposed to stay in the ACT for 2 years as part of my visa but this job opportunity is hard to turn down. I absolutely love the ACT and had no intentions of moving away but i suppose the road in front of us can change and sometimes quickly. What would happen if i left the ACT and would the government/ACT know if i moved to WA for my remaining 16 month of my state sponsorship? After that i can get my PR and its happy days
  11. We used serviced apartments in the city. But a good place to look is gumtree for short term lets. I am on the south side because i love it down here but i love some parts of belconnen as long as its not near the students.
  12. If in future people have problems with jobs i might be able to help a little as i work in employment (not recruitment) and i have an idea of some vacancies around the ACT
  13. I am a bolton fan but i love watching the EPL (seeing as we are struggling in the championship). I am well up for watching football in a pub over a beer. I heard some scousers own a pub in kingston.
  14. I nearly went private and got sprintman to do a vehicle check but i found a nearly new Holden - Cruze CDX at a dealer and its almost immaculate. If i was buying private i would defo get a check done and also pay $30 dollars for a check to see if its been in a crash/stolen/HPI.
  15. I worked in Ramsbottom. I have no doubt I have bumped into you at some point.
  16. Broadband and contents done. So as a tenant all I need now is foxtel for soccer lol. Thanks for all the help.
  17. Right i have managed to speak with actew. Apparently i dont pay for water and i have now got an electricity account. Its tough luck on the water temp as its the same temp for the whole block of townhouses. I dont suppose anyone can answer another question for someone renting. So now i know about water and elec what else do i need to do? Council tax? Rates? What else is involved in the ACT when renting a house? Thanks Guys
  18. Thanks rammy girl. I have asked the letting agencies these questions but I am yet to get a response regarding the water. I am sure I will get there. I asked the question of who pays the water charges. Hopefully it's not all me. Rammy girl - on another note can I ask why you picked rammygirl as a username? Its not because your from Ramsbottom in England is it?
  19. Thanks for the help guys. When you rent you can still chose who you use. It's nothing to do with the landlord when you have a tenancy agreement. Signed up to now. Still not sure if I have gas or not though. I am making this enquiry. I wanna know how to control the incoming water temp as it's to hot and causing problems with the temp.
  20. Hi guys, We are finally in our rental accommodation. I need to start looking into setting up water and electric. Which companies to people recommend. I would normally price comparison in the UK but i can seem to find that facility here in the ACT. Which company do i contact for water (is there only 1 for the area like in the UK or is their a choice). I presume most places dont have gas? I am in a new build town house and i cant even find the water heater. The water is way to hot and i want to turn it down to save on electric. Any advice would be great. Thanks. Neal
  21. I opened an account with NAB online before i came. We were given a emigration speciaist at the bank called lucinda shields. Shes been amazing with us. Sat down with us, explained the way things words and set us up savings and joint accounts in minutes. Gave us local information on comparison sites etc. I went in the bank for a couple of bank cheque for the accommodation and for a car and she waved the fees for the bank cheques which was nice. When i send her an email with new addresses and tax numbers she has always been really nice and quick with replies. NAB have loads of ATM's and you can also use Redi machines free of charge as well so its easy to get your cash.
  22. I miss traffic lights that change regularly. I have only been driving a few weeks and i am constantly frustrated by the lack of traffic flow. One red light changes and you drive 10 meters and hit another red lights. Wait 4 minutes and hit another red light. It took me about 15 minutes to get around 2 corners yesterday. But thats my only complaint about canberra in the 6 weeks i have been here. Actually i lie. Aussies make shite scones as well! Other then that i love it here lol.
  23. I have signed up with TPG as a recommendation from a friend. You can get a good unlimited package with free international calls to the UK etc. IInet is apparently poo. Mobile phone i went with optus. Its pre paid so i have to top up every month but i pay $40 a month and i get 400 minutes which i can also use to call the UK (landlines and mobiles) 1 gig of internet and unlimited SMS. I noticed this company run on telstra http://www.boost.com.au/frontend/home.aspx its completely unlimited but i have read a mixed bag of reviews. But suppose you get that with all companies.
  24. Hi, Back in England i enjoy a poker night with the lads and a few drinks. I am struggling to find any poker nights or places other then the casino which have poker tournaments. I just want a social night which does not have massive amounts of money involved but is kept interesting. Does anyone have any suggestions or anyone hold a poker night who fancies adding one more? Neal
