1. Good luck with it I'm sure it will be fine! It's just a money making racket!
2. They had a serious backlog back when we applied months and months! But like I said this is the worst part the rest will be a doddle!
3. Oh God they are still a complete head wreck then! At least when we applied it was only a $300 or something it's gone a lot since hasn't it? It's a hard slog but it's the worst part of the process and once you're through it the rest will be a doddle!
4. Hi Susan My Husband failed and we appealed we just gave them the extra things they were looking for and got successful the 2nd time. It's a couple of years ago now so I can't remember how long it took, a few months but it seemed like years!! Good luck! Caz
5. Hi is it worth bringing a 2008 Citroen C4 grand picasso? Automatic diesel 1.6 from Ireland? and any ideas on the cost? We'd be going to Perth. Cheers
6. He's doing ok but it's really all about getting contacts, meeting people getting experience in oz he's finding it frustrating cause he's got 17 years experience and he's on his own till Christmas! But there's definitely work out there!
7. You need your trade papers is there any way you can get them reissued? If not you'll have to try and get them through recognition of prior learning (that's what my husband did tiler also) we used Australian skills assessment I think was their name they were very good. For that you need to prove 4 years work grand if you have an employer but if self employed like my dh a nightmare writing down individual jobs for 4 years! We sent pictures and video of my dh working too. Then you do an interview via Skype and that's it it costs a fair bit though think ours was about €1500 I think I did this bit through a migration agent might be worth giving one a call you can usually get a good bit of info from them in the 1st call before they start charging you. Then you have to deal with TRA that's a whole different nightmare!
8. Thanks guys! I'll look at the ins and outs of it if I can figure out if people are interested, no point in frying my brain with all the rules and regs till I know if it's worth it!
9. When we get to Oz I'm going to have to work, but without childcare rebate not sure if I can afgord to! I was wondering are there any other wives/husbands in this situation? I was thinking there must be and wondering if anyone would be interested in me minding their kids in my own home at a lower rate than the creches charge? I am officially a special needs assistant and have childcare qualifications and would get working with children check for both me and my dh as he'll be about the house too at times. Anyway just wondering if it's something people would be interested in.
10. So sorry to read your sad news sending you a big hug!
11. My husband just flew over last week his toolbox was his checked luggage! He didn't bring anything electrical I don't think but saws hammer etc no prob as long as the weight is ok
12. On a 489 your classed as pr for school fees so there shouldn't be any or at least that's the info I got for WA not sure if it differs from state to state. You're allowed to come and go as you please as long as you're living and working in your designated area. Other than that I can't help. Good luck with it all!
13. Depends on how much you need them to do, we used one to get my dh trade papers and after that I realised I was doing most of the work anyway and did TRA and visa application myself!
14. Ah right! So they're prob gonna offer 186 if anything at all thanks blossom
15. No not just that if there aren't the same restrictions on locations to live and work it obviously means that himself has more places that he can work - he's a tiler so obviously an advantage to have more scope for places to work! I know it's expensive but we got our 489 in before the massive price rise so at least we wouldn't have paid it twice! And is it worth it for PR? I won't know anything definite until DH meets them tomorrow just wanted to get a better idea in my head about it if they do offer it to him.
16. I'm aware that it's a regional visa but the 489 family sponsored is also regional but allows work throughout any part of regional Australia unlike the state sponsored which has restricted postcodes in WA but they're both regional! I was wondering if it has restricted postcodes as I can't find them mentioned on skillselect. I don't know all the answers that's why I'm looking for peoples opinion on the 489 vs the 186/187 (if it becomes a possibility) Basically is PR always better than Provisional? Is the biggest draw back being dependent on your employer fulfilling their end of the 2 year commitment? Any pitfalls or advantages, just information like I said in my origional post!
17. It says on skillselect that all of WA is regional I thought it didn't have the same restrictions of postcodes like our 489 they're not mentioned at all in the info for the 187? That's what I meant by restrictions the areas to live and work. He should be fine working for the same person for 2 years as long as they're professional and run things properly he'll be happy enough to just get on with his job! He wouldn't take the sponsorship if he thought they were dodgy in any way at all or if he thought he couldn't get along with them. I'm not sure which they're offering he's meeting them tomorrow. My thinking was that the PR would be a better option to what we have now, at least I'd be able to work as well on PR with the 489 We wouldn't be able to afford childcare without the rebate!
18. Hi We have a state sponsored 489 but there is a possibility that my DH could get sponsored which while very dependent on the employer must be a better option as it's PR and he has no restrictions on where he works? So any facts or info on the subject would be greatly appreciated!!
19.

More chance of infection and complications if they do it while still inflamed, hopefully still be able to have keyhole so be out the same day! If it flares up again he said he'd bring me in sooner but it's only 3 weeks so not too bad! And on the plus side I've lost about 3 stone it's amazing what an actual fear of eating certain things will do!...... I am craving cheese though!!
