  1. I was being quoted prices like 900 with extra on top to change the date. Singapore airlines are unbelievably expensive for a return. I don't want to spend £1000 or more on a flight if Im not 100% certain I will be coming back on it, I don't have that sort of money to just waste. However I'm worried that 7if 00 wouldn't be enough. obviously don't want stranded.

Sta travel told me about too flights.. one is £630 return from 4th of November till start of June. The other is £740 till the end of may with one free date change but with the tax/fare difference on top if theres any. I cant get longer than 9 months with them

that one with the free change date at £740 sounds really reasonable! I normally pay around £700-800 return but with no option of changing date. I understand about not wasting money though I know it's always more expensive buying a single back to oz then it is single to oz if that makes sense. How much is the single coming out to oz? If you feel more comfortable with two singles go with that (will probably cost more that way but might be wrong if you get a good deal. I wasted about £500 buying two singles for New Zealand instead of open return). If your working you may be happy with two singles and not worry which would be good. Personally if I did it again I would buy an open return with cheap date change.

But do what your most happy doing :-) not long now. Any news on the visa?

  2. Do you think 700 -750 would be enough to set aside to get home? some of the flights are cheap like $800 but some are a lot more expensive!

When I got a single back from Auckland it was about £750.

how much are open returns? Does it work out cheaper to get an open return and pay the admin fee to change date if needed?

  3. You should not have a problem with rent or house prices in Solihull. It's generally counted as a cheap area (though there are cheaper places) but certainly wouldn't be counted as expensive.

Good luck ensure you get the appropriate permission from their father due to The Hague convention (i think it's called). If he disagrees it's very tricky to leave with them. Also I would second obtaining their British passports if possible to avoid any issues when arriving back in the UK.

good luck I hope everything works out for the best or as close as that.

  4. Yeah when I looked at Emirates it's only 90 mins in Dubai. But it's over £700 just for a single. £1017 for a return

Aww thats annoying I did Emirates in April for £710 return, with a short stopover in dubai (one way was 2 hours other was 90 minutes), but that was leaving from London.

  5. My friend Alex flies with them all the time. But if you want to get here in the quickest possible time, fly BA/Qantas!

Why are BA/Qantas quickest? It is down to how long your stop over isn't it? I recently flew with Emirates and only had a 1 hour 40 minute stop over which was not long.

  6. As long as the airline has a good safety record I would not worry in general about people's reviews. Some people moan about the smallest of things. I have flown Malaysia, Emirates and Royal brunei and had no issues with any of these airlines :-)

  7. My friend did her year and then went travelling in Europe and then went back to the UK applied for work in UK to save some more funds to fund her second working holiday. So as long as she applies from outside of Australia then she can re-enter later after her trip to Europe.

  8. I'm not bringing my laptop because that's really heavy. I'll bring my kindle fire and my phone obviously but if I need to type then I suppose I'll have to use a library/Internet cafe

I brought myself a notebook (Mini laptop) so it meant I could send off CV's easily. They are really compact and easy to travel with.

I would probably go with a suitcase with wheels, unless you plan on going camping or need to walk around with it a lot.

  9. If you do have the minimum funds in time for September why not try and apply for some jobs from home before going? I Know its not always as easy as that but when I went to NZ I had lined up 4 interviews before I had landed. I emailed recruitment agencies mostly, but if its close to the date you could look on various sites and just apply anyway saying you arrive in September and if you did get some positive responses may make you more confident going over with just the minimum amount?

  10. Personally I would not bother. You can apply for your bank account before you even leave for Oz. I applied and just made an appointment via email to the bank and collected my cards the day after I arrived. Really easy. You can also transfer funds before you go. Getting your TFN is also easy. I would just book yourself into the same hostel and save yourself the money. If your staying in a hostel they are also bound to have jobs advertised, if not there is loads of websites which you can job hunt for. My friend recently just came back from Oz and found it super easy to get jobs if your willing to go where the work is. (She did not do those meeting things). Also transfers from airports to city are really easy, I understand arranging transport when the country you go to does not speak the same language. I even picked up my Sim card at the airport and had a working sim with credit before leaving the airport :-)

Though the choice is yours, but this forum is great for advice and your probably receive the same or better advice from here.

  11. I would book it as soon as you see a price your happy with. I normally book really far in advance as it gives me a chance to save more money and motivation to save. Its a risk leaving it to close to booking flights that the price may go a lot higher but its always hard to tell. If you can afford to book now and are happy with the price then book :-) Good motivator to save up the last remaining funds.

  12. Haha im such a loner, most of these girls have booked that package thing and they were trying to get me to book. Most people would say alright then but I'm too much of a cheapo so I'll just do my own thing

i wouldn't bother with those meeting things my friend did them and to be honest you can get any information you need either online or on here. They charge a fair amount for these start up meetings too.

On on stop over if you can afford it then go for it, you could just do a few days which will help with the jet lag and on your way back stay for an longer stay if you have funds :-) for beach areas in Thailand also vote don't do Phuket but do less touristy places as mentioned.

    Enjoy

  13. Just a shot in the dark here but do the pre-paid credit cards give you a credit history? Obviously as you load them with money they can't refuse giving you one.

Cash plus do! You can get one of these cards and if your prepared to you can pay £5 a month and they will submit to the credit agencies you have been paying a loan back and give you a positive score on your record. You do this for a year and you should have a better credit score.

  14. I love Perth (Also love Sydney) can not comment on Melbourne. Perth heat is for sure bearable as it is dry heat even though it does get hot. Not sure what the climate is in Melbourne if its dry or humid?

When you heading over? Remember you got your WHV :-)

  15. Its funny I suffered more with 26-28C heat in Sydney then I did 40C in Perth. Like you say its how sticky it feels, makes it feel like the heat is on your skin. I love the heat but not when its humid.

  16. I can not comment on Melbourne as I have never been but I found Sydney humid very high in the summer, whereas when I went Perth straight after even the days it hit 40 it was easier to deal with then Sydney heat as it was dry heat.

  17. I have a friend who went out on a WHV for 1 year but did her farm work and came back again a few years later to do her second year. She found it difficult to get work in the cities but found it very easy outside of the cities. Like others have said if your prepared to do hospitality, retail, etc your get a job :-)
