  1. Think you will find it near on impossible to find a sponsor (sorry) but you will certainly be contributing to the economy no worries their !
  2. Ha Ha whats new - welcome to Australia the land where they exploit those from over seas unlike us from the UK! All i can say is that there is probably more of this to come !
  3. you guessed correctly all training needs to be carried out on Australian soil anything over seas is not excepted
  4. Yep I second this I miss the good old british banter the crack at work just not the same here ! over the years i have spent here I have gained a different view / perspective as I have matured with age so now I am starting to go off Aus completely ! Going back to UK made my mind up just a shame that the politicians are hell bent on totally destroying it - looking forward to jan 2014 when the UK possibly could become flooded with Bulgarians and Romanians !
  5. well as i say had experience of Oz for the past 11 yrs from a trades mans point of view done all that was necessary to get registered licensed etc! I am all legit! except I have always have struggled to get employment in my trade here ! so ping pong back and fourth between here and the UK where I can always get employment easier! Yes I did my homework by spending 12months traveling around each part of Australia 11 years ago and getting a feel for the place before deciding to move here, so knew and expected it to be always hard. Except even though having gained my PR and jumped through all the hoops I still struggle to secure long term work or even a start in the first place. The only way I have got work here in the past is through other people. Now those contacts have dried up. If I apply to jobs / positions directly I hear nothing back at all not even an acknowledgement! but a week later the same job position is being readvertised. If I phone up nobody usually answers so a message is left and I never hear anything back! If somebody does manage to answer they say they are not interested!
  6. Very True I just wish the UK government would implement the same as Australia. I have had Australians take work over me in the past in the UK keeping me out of work and I have been on construction jobs where Australians even get a higher rate than us born and grew up in the UK carrying out the same job and tasks! Sure is fair! Do the UK governments give a toss (who ever is in government) ? no because it doesn't affect them directly!
  7. Hmm as I said earlier welcome to Australia - for me slowly over the years I'v slowly come to realise that the Australian system is set up so as to protect Australian jobs and exploit immigrants. Although I can not obviously say that this is always the case as some people do make a success of it no doubt after investing considerable amounts of money associated with immigration and visa's. But how many people from the UK do actually realise that all you do is pour more and more of your money into the Australian economy by having to retrain and do courses and then not being excepted for work positions that are available so then you feed all of your savings into the Australian economy. I think the emigrating to Australia lark is pretty much a scam by the Australian government who seem to be doing pretty well out of it. How can the Australian government say for example plumbers and electricians are on the critical skills list and that your visa and PR status are given but as soon as you arrive in Australia your existing qualifications aren't good enough even though you have passed the assessments and critieria !and you will have to invest in retraining and pour your personal savings into the Aus economy to survive and support your family while you do all of this. Same with the Working Holiday Visa with the restrictions set in place and the time limit its a good way for Australia to gain the cheap labour and labour needed to fill the jobs the Aussies don't want to do. Shame UK doesn't do the same with its immigrants and Australian trades men (forced to retrain) they should also make living within the UK for 2yrs before claiming benefits compulsory like Australia I'm sure it would help with the much needed extra revenue the UK coffers needs! Well this is my take on it..................................I'm sure no doubt I will get shot down by somebody on here though !!!!
  8. No I wouldn't worry the WHV is set up so that you are more or less restricted and used to fill the crap jobs the Aussies don't want to do you will find getting fruit picking the easiest ...................................well that was my perception when I had it 11 yrs ago but then it was different you could only work for one employer a max of 3 months and it only lasted 12 months! best of luck
  9. Not true - depends what sector you work in I have found if you work in I.T it is fairly easier to score work but if you work in construction much much harder especially for plumbers and electricians as for melbourne had 11 yrs experience always been difficult to get work here in this city - Sydney could be easier maybe but not always the case!
  10. exactly but nobody in UK believes me................................It's not only recently though I have found it to be like this most of the time I have been in Oz around 11 yrs if you are originally from UK.
  11. Try sending AJ a personal message directly sometimes these posts go unchecked ! I have a few reasons and past experiences on the matter but of course that could be seen as a biased view !!!
  12. Ha Ha I knew it Melbourne does my nut in I'v had a stomach full of it !!!!
  13. exactly 100% true this is exactly what I keep saying experienced it long enough now ! (Australian accountants seem to come up through chartered companies) now thats a s surprise for this country I wasn't expecting that !!!!!
  14. Absolutely I did mine in a clasroom heard rumours of the same and also crap about Victoria not excepting ones unless done in Victoria knowing this place thats prob true so I didn't take the risk !!! up to you though but me personally am through with wasting money !!!!!
  15. Skyba am I missing something here ??? are you a qualified time served sparky or just an improver as stated in one of your previous posts ???? About a working holiday visa I was only suggesting you do it as a way of finding out what its like here trying to get work how the system works maybe approach employers getting your face known which could lead and help you with residency up to you though and probably arrogance on your part for wanting to come over here with your eyes closed. The system is completely different from that in the Uk and a lot of us tradies coming over form there sort of anticipate it being the same banging on about their NVQ's and all the different courses they have done in the Uk which don't mean jack! further more I don;'t think there really is a skills shortage or demand for tradesmen as stated by the Aus government. I think a lot of it is these emigration agencies playing one country off another . Talking and working with other Aussies they keep saying how there is a shortage or electricians and plumbers back in the Uk and they have to come over to plug that hole well I think we all know the answer to that one! Having lived in both countries I still think the UK is better now ! i used to think that Aus was way better ! I have to say over the past 11 years the cost of everything else keeps rising - houses, cost of living , shopping etc but I have to say the wages / rates have stayed the same more or less since the first time I came out here. Aussies I speak to keep saying how expensive it is here and how dear the houses are and that people in the Uk don't realise this !
  16. I have been looking for work here again for some months now bloody frustrating ! over the years I have found that I have only got work through other people unfortunately because I went back to Uk for a while. Now I'm back my contacts have dried up and I'm reduced to applying to advertised jobs to which I hear no response or acknowledgement at all what so ever. Regardless of experience, and qualifications ! But a week or 2 weeks later the same job is being readvertised!. So obviously not filled ! But yes I do agree strongly I find it easier to get work back in the UK than here in Australia (me personally)
  17. Ok then fair enough get on with it then but for me I'v personally had enough of all that crap when you do get out here and see for yourself you will understand ! I'm not just talking about industries here everything is wrapped in red tape!
  18. Exactly so why do you still want to come to Oz if its exactly the same as the UK except you basically have to start from scratch again ??? and go backwards????? this is what I am asking my self lately !!!! I don't think it is really a better life over here any more maybe some years back when things where different but as I said before not sure when you plan to come here but with more and more people arriving here in Australia every week you better make it soon as otherwise it will be more or less like the UK! and again rates will start to drop even more due to competition ! Apart from Agencies why don't you do other work as well ???? I used to and as I say I plan to go back to the UK ! But in our game I think it is the same the whole world wide ! you should have done something else than a trade! If you are really struggling now how will you manage to save money to come to Australia to buy or rent a house and support your self while you retrain and look for work? But as I said before good luck and I do hope you make a success of it !
  19. true good answer but why would you want a building licence and all the other crap just to paint someones door or mend a fence ! To me this country has to much unnecessary crap! What about if you had and run your own business in the Uk before in the past and it was successful why would you want to waste your time and money doing a course ?
  20. Well if you read my earlier post you would have seen it I was last in Uk 6 months ago so know only to well as to what it is like over their ! have a read up on my previous post. Also yep I did try right at the start about trying to retrain as something else or get out of my trade altogether as I got frustrated with it all but doing that that turned out to be a complete ball ache ! I lived in London worked in London but also prepared to travel all around the country and i worked in Bristol as well and was actually looking to buy property in Bristol once ! I know the rates are crap over their in Uk and basically you get shat on ! there is not a lot we can do about it (Being part of Europe is the problem for me) but honestly I feel more comfortable and secure over there at least I have money in my bank account here in Aus I'm in and out of work all the time sat on my arse trying to find work for spells at a time ! False promises of work, ignored most of the time when you are trying to get work, always need some other ticket or other crap ! when you go into another state to work something is not accepted or recognised! Mate believe me in no way am I trying to put you off ! but I don't think Australia is how you interpret it to be once you are here and living ! Thats why I say to you come over on a working holiday visa and experience what its like trying to get work here etc!!!! you may even get lucky??? I tryed for many a year coming here trying to find a sponsor did I get one - No ! were people interested No! yeh I'v worked with loads of Aussies in the UK who make everything sound rosie and you can do this and you can do that and you will earn this much - but in reality its very rarely like that - for them yes because they were born in Aus!
  21. exactly doing your apprenticeship here in Australia makes a big big difference ! when it comes to getting on mines you need to know people! I know you don't know me and i do sound like a negative person I'm not trying to put you off in any way ! I used to be like you once and have the same attitude over the years the continual grind has worn me down ! I think it really comes down to what area of work you are in if your a tradie it is hard but even so being either a plumber or sparks. I know lots of people who have made a great success of things because they are in I.T and they basically say they are continuing on with what they were doing in the UK - Plumbing and electrics are done differently here with different rules and regs to the UK! My best advice for you is to get a working holiday visa come out and have a look around and get a feel for the place make some enquiries and try applying and looking for jobs ! Not sure what the age limit on them is any more but when I had mine it was 30 so i would get in quick !
  22. So true...........................the grass aint always greener as I said before I'v been ping ponging back and fourth between the two for some years now ! and not a very clever thing to do either! I suppose it can be true that you can have higher wages her in Aus but then the cost of living is more expensive than the Uk i find!. Also its true you do get taxed here more than the UK - although Aus tax law is identical as UK but probably worse! Also with the value of the pound decreasing I think it could well balance its self out just go back to 2002 and it was Aus$2.7 to the GBP so yeh it was fantastic wages then I was certainly laughing but now its Aus$1.5 its heading towards Uk tradesmen rates!
