1. Have a good brekkie on the day, have a bottle of water in there with you. Have 2 pencils and a pencil sharpner, an eraser. If you are up against it in terms of needing the required results, book 2 tests at the same time, this will keep you calm on the first test knowing you have another chance already in the bag a week later, otherwise should you fail, you will find this out after 2 weeks, you will then have to wait an additional 5 weeks (I was in London, could be different elsewhere) before you can get another place. That's 7 weeks between tests, alot of time wasted, bringing your deadline ever closer. When you book a test, specifically ask to have your speaking test early and you may avoid hanging around for up to 4-5 hours to do your speaking test. Also, have a sandwich after the first part of the day so you are not hungry for your speaking test. COMPLAIN, if someone is cheating or putting you off. I have an IELTS Official Practice Materials book, unused and complete with CD (also unused), worth £10, and a Cambridge IELTS 8 (Official Examination Papers from the University of Cambridge, unused with both CD's (bought for £26.97). If someone wants to PM me and send me £10 to cover the postage, I will post both to you. Cheers, Paul.
2. Yeah I'm looking forward to all that, will have to pick a team carefully!
3. Thanks Les, and sorry, will be in Sydney, trying to be an ozzie.
4. So roughly what time will the games actually be on? 11pmish? Also, as an aside, does anyone know what time Formula 1 races are shown on TV? I'd imagine its usually later evening?
5. Hello Sameer123, sorry, didn't you post to ask people what to do? And I suggested you read the thread. Once again, good luck, I wish you well.
6. Yep, fair enough, financial in terms of tax, capital gains on your property at home, tax on the rent your getting, minimizing tax, pension, ISA's old PEP's. I'm coming up with questions, but was hoping those with experience might suggest a few I might not come up with. Thanks. Regards, P.
7. Hello, My situation is as above, I'm moving to OZ from the UK, will leave my place to rent. I have the chance to talk to a tax and immigration specialist. What I was wondering, for those who have made the move, are there any specific questions I could/should ask, that perhaps you guys didn't think of at the time, but looking back wish you had? I am trying to think up some questions, but there may be some that only people who have actually made the move would actually think of or know about. Any contribution is welcome, and thanks in advance for taking the time to answer. Regards, P.
8. Samer123, don't you think that with the power of the internet at your fingertips, you could try putting in some effort to find recruiters yourself, rather than randomly posting a question on this site and expect people to do the hard work for you. Either that or you are not a naturally resourceful individual. I have read every post on this thread, and there have been several posts that answer your questions one way or another. So, at the very least, make the effort to read through the thread and do something for yourself. I don't mean to be harsh, but first impressions make it seem like your looking for an easy road to take, when there really isn't any. Still, good luck, I wish you well. Regards, PW
9. Assuming this is aimed at my post, 'My Mad Fat Diary' is, I hope the others aren't! Especially 'Utopia'!
10. tell you what, if you want to watch some great telly and have access to 4OD in the UK via whatever you use, you need to check out 'Utopia', its a one off of 6 episodes and will blow you away. Also, 'My Mad Fat Diary' (E4, both series 1 and 2, its set in the 90's and has awesome soundtrack), and all four series of 'Misfits'.
11. YYEEEAAAHHHHH!!! You got a Nutribullet! How drunk were you and what time in the early hours of the morning was it?
12. Hello, what methods have you used to find a position? Let us know, somebody may be able to suggest something new, put your industry quals in your signature so people can see what you have. Mrs POB, left a great post a week or so ago, have a look at that, have you tried any of these things? Regards, P.
13. This is a great post, thank you for taking the time out, much appreciated! Regards, PW.
14. Chethoo, thanks for your contribution, the thread is really geared towards people who are already here and looking rather than asking people for opportunities when you have not arrived yet, otherwise it dilutes the threads purpose and loses focus. That aside, your post would be a little more relevant to the thread, and more helpful to you and the readers if you actually mentioned where it is you intend to settle when you eventually get here. Cheers! P.
15. This is good advice, the Miele will be a lot more powerful than a Dyson and better made. I've owned both. I hear the Dyson customer service is a nightmare as well. I notice in the adverts that it (the Dyson) is the most powerful cyclone on the market, that doesn't mean its more powerful than a cleaner with a bag. And yes, buy it before you go, a Miele is a fraction of the price it is in OZ.
16. Yes, I was aware of the two year thing, I wasn't sure whether it had to be the first two years or not. I wonder though if Vic would prefer me to arrive with a job, rather than without :-)
17. Hello, I realise I should just ask the relevant authorities, but was curious to know if anybody else had done this? Basically, my wife and I will be moving to Melbourne, I am state sponsored PR. The only thing we worry about is getting jobs. Her company is global and has an office in Sydney and it may be possible for to get a transfer there, I would then work there on her visa. The idea is that we work there while I apply for jobs in Melbourne, if I could get a contract in Sydney, it would mean that I would gain 'Australian Local Experience', which would help me get a job in Melbourne. The idea is we could emigrate to Melbourne via Sydney without either (or both) of us being out of work. I just wonder what Vic state would make of it though. I don't want to do anything to jeopardise the Vic state visa I worked so hard for, and it would be a massive advantage to be able to make the change without both of us being unemployed at any point. Thoughts? Regards, P.
18. Ironman2 (real name?), where in OZ are you located and what area of IT do you work in? Regards, Paul.
19. Hello Everyone, I will finally be making the trip over to Melbourne this year, I was wondering how all the previous posters have got on since? Even if its just one sentence, a little update from everyone would be really interesting, don't forgot to mention what you do, and where you are located so people can work out if its relevant to them. Remember its not a thread for finding a job, its a thread to find out how you are getting on finding a job, and how you view the industry as it stands. Looking forward to hearing your replies! Thank you, everyone and happy new year (the 7th, I think I'm still in the 'Happy New Year' window?)! Regards, Paul.
20. One of the best threads I've ever come across on this site, thank you. PW.
21. That he wants someone for less than a 100k? What's the average (ballpark figure)? Cheers, PW
22. I'd write them an email and ask if colour scans are ok. That was the case for all my assessment stuff, your local library will have a colour scanner to use, and if they are acceptable it can save you an unreal amount of time and hassle. cheers, PW.
23.

Apologies, forget the price I just gave you, if you can send me a £10 note to cover the postage and I will send you the books, saving you £37. Cheers, Paul.
