Hello, I too need to apologize for net answering sooner, sorry you did not pass the test, I don't visit the site much. £20 would get you the two brand new unused books, complete with CD and postage (assuming you are in the UK), which saves you about a £10-£12. I'll keep my eye out for your reply.

2. Hello everyone, I thought I'd bump the thread to see how everyone is getting on. The thread lost its way a bit, it was originally for people already in OZ that were looking for work rather than those that had not yet arrived, but all is welcome. So if you are in OZ and looking, how are you all finding it at the moment? I have read that the IT job market is saturated right now and difficult. Would your perception of the IT job market reflect this, or have you had difference experiences? Remember to mention your location and what you do in your reply, or a clear picture of the current state of affairs will not be achieved. Cheers! PW.

Melbourne F1 GP

Well that's the thing, it did and also continues to keep Melbourne on the global stage along with the Tennis etc., but the fee has been going up the last few years, I new deal could balance it out though. I normally have to go abroad for a GP, to have one I can get a train to would be amazing as I'll be holidaying in OZ for pretty much forever, a GP would be my one treat of the year.

Melbourne F1 GP

Oh its all about money, there is no doubt that, everything is these days, more in sport than anything else. But I love F1 despite that, and if a better deal can be done, I do believe that a race can help the local economy. However, if you dont like F1, your never going to want the race there.
6. I sympathize, I took it 4 times until I got all 8's. Tip: Have a good brekkie on the day, have a bottle of water in there with you. Have 2 pencils and a pencil sharpner, an eraser. If you are up against it in terms of needing the required results, book 2 tests at the same time, this will keep you calm on the first test knowing you have another chance already in the bag a week later, otherwise should you fail, you will find this out after 2 weeks, you will then have to wait an additional 5 weeks (I was in London, could be different elsewhere) before you can get another place. That's 7 weeks between tests, alot of time wasted, bringing your deadline ever closer. When you book a test, specifically ask to have your speaking test early and you may avoid hanging around for up to 4-5 hours to do your speaking test. Also, have a sandwich after the first part of the day so you are not hungry for your speaking test. COMPLAIN, if someone is cheating or putting you off. I have an IELTS Official Practice Materials book, unused and complete with CD (also unused), worth £10, and a Cambridge IELTS 8 (Official Examination Papers from the University of Cambridge, unused with both CD's (bought for £26.97). If someone wants to PM me and send me £10 to cover the postage, I will post both to you. Cheers, Paul.

Kite Surfing

Thanks, its something Ive always really fancied, yeah, I could do it in the UK, but I think we all know why I wouldnt. I like the idea you can fit it all the kit in your car as well, without the hassle of a roof rack that you get with windsurfing. Windsurfing just seems too cumbersome as well. P.
9. Jamie, I grew up on Canvey Island, what road did you live down?
10. Id be curious to know about this as well. Might be (well...it will be) me one day. Regards, P.

Kite Surfing

Hello, I was just wondering if this was very popular in Victoria/Melbourne? its something I quite fancy getting into upon arrival. Cheers, P
12. Hello there, Just thought I'd post to see how everyone that has posted is getting on so far? New posters welcome of course! Regards, P.
13. Hello, In the eye's of the ACS, I believe it is yes. Regards, P.
14. Hello, Well I guess the best thing to do would be to look at the OZ job sites such as SEEK, the last time I looked there appeared to be a few networking jobs. I'm gussing your MSCE is with Windows 2008? The working holiday is a good idea, you have nothing to lose. Regards, P.
15. I am hearing similar stuff, I'm a contactor as well, in London. My time is up in about a month so I am now sure how it will go after that. I have also heard similar things said about OZ, only I get the feeling they have not had their ecomonic downturn yet, I get the feeling its on the edge unless your in the west where the mining is. I dont mind going over while its steady, but I would be very concerned about going over just as it (the economy) starts to go downwards. Regards, P.
16. Good article, I'm starting to think things might be picking up a bit. What kind of programming do you do? Are you currently in OZ (Which city?) Regards, P.
17. Not me, in fact I dont really know anyone with SAP experience. I am going to sign up for the AustralianIT news app on the ipad, hopefully I will learn a fair bit about the IT market from that. Regards, P.
18. Hello, I thought I would start a specific IT thread to try and gauge the climate of the IT job market in Australia in real(ish) time. I hear differing stories all the time about what kind of state the IT employment situation is in, some people are getting a job easily others finding it tough etc. I will be moving over next year, so I am especially interested and although there are a few threads regarding this, some are quite old or fragmented. So if you are searching for work, or have recently arrived in OZ, or if you have just got a job in IT in OZ, then please share your thoughts and experiences. Please say what it is you do, and where you are doing it/looking for it, what efforts you have made and what it is you think as hindered you/helped you as it makes the thread more useful and cohesive. If you have just moved, mention where you have moved from, and what type of visa you have. Me? I am a SQL DBA, hopefully I will move into BI before the move, been doing it for about 10 years, I am currently in London, British, and want to live in Melbourne on a 176. Please start your posts this way. Hopefully after a while a picture will emerge, and we can all get a decent idea of where its all at, and perhaps offer each other some help or suggestions. Cheers, P.
19. Hello, I would like to know if the 12 month ownership rule applies to older vehicles. We would like to buy a VW Kombi that will have now doubt been made in the late 60/70's, but would like to move to Melbourne well within the next 12 months. Would I still have had to have owned this for more than 12 months before I can bring it over? VW Kombi's ar pretty expensive in OZ. Thank in advance for any advice. Regards, P.
