  1. You can watch things like eastenders, the apprentice, great british bake off etc on YouTube... So glad I don't have to miss my eastenders
  2. Hi all After casually looking for a bit of work I have come to the conclusion that you have to be trained to do more or less anything in Australia (with the exception of a few things of course.. So... Im thinking of doing a course in the new year to gain me a qualification and help me get a little job. Has anybody done any training with TAFE and what were their experiences like? I am probably going to do something along the lines of health administration but am open to suggestions if somebody has particularly enjoyed a course... Thanks in advance
  3. Also, in our experience, lift mechanic isn't even a job out here... No idea why it is on the skills list. In the UK you don't need to be an electrician to work in this trade - you do in aus... If you would like a chat, inbox me your email address and I can try to answer any questions you may have. We are in South Australia, the rules and regs could be different where you end up.
  4. If you haven't done an apprenticeship in the UK you will need to get a RPL (recognition of prior learning) Try PEER VEET - we are in the process or doing this ourselves... A word of warning tho, this is not a common problem and doesnt appear to have an easy solution. Good luck!!!
  5. Hi, we have just secured our shipping company - Anglo pacific. They advised us that the containers usually take 10 weeks to get from uk to aus.
  6. We used an agent and didn't hear anything about a case officer being assigned. I'm guessing we were a direct grant. I wouldn't worry too much (easier said than done) - if you check the visa tracker, they are being done slowly but surely
  7. 190 SA visa lodged 23/4/14 - granted yesterday!!!! They are really starting to move now. I can hardly contain my excitement!! booking flights tonight then celebrating with a glass of bubbly!!!! Such great news
  8. When appliying for our skills assessment, We had to prove that hubby had worked at a company that had gone bankrupt. We did this by contacting companies house - they have a record of every legitimate registered business In the uk (I think) - and pay for a certificate. We then had to further prove this by composing a statutory declaration stating dates worked from/to and in which capacity he worked (and list all duties undertaken) and have it signed by a solicitor. We also provided pay slips and a p60. Oh, and we had to do this twice, for 2 different companies... I'm surprised we didn't have to sign something with our own blood!!! That would have definitely been easier!!! Good luck
  9. It's should be easier for you as you have a diploma etc. my hubby only had on the job experience which was why we needed to give so much evidence. Hopefully it won't be so painful for you! We are still here in the uk - in Bedfordshire - we lodged our visa application mid April - we are now on week 13 waiting for our grant. Hoping to be out in south australia before the end of the summer. where abouts are you off to??
  10. From my experience, TRA is a minefield. We needed to prove my partners last 15 years of experience in his trade, backed up with payslips (first and last for each employer), p60s, technical references from each employer over his entire working history - those companies that are no longer trading had to be proved by contacting companies house and obtaining a certificate. we even had to prove that an ex employer had died by writing a statutory declaration and have it witnessed by a solicitor. My advice would be, if you can afford it, then pay an agent to do it for you. They will make sure everything is in order before submitting you application... Good luck
  11. i dont envy envy you matt - TRA want to know EVERYTHING!!!! What's your trade??
  12. Hi torrentkid - great idea about the spread sheet btw i have tried to add my details but the info I have inputted doesn't match the rest of the format... Feel free to adjust it if you want to.
  13. thank you for your good advice emwatson. I know that patience is the key but it's soo much easier said than done. That spread sheet is encouraging and I am hoping that you are right in your thinking that the April gang will get their grants by the end of the month...
  14. We lodged on 23/4/14 and have heard nothing at all Does anybody know if there is a general phone number or email that we can call to check the progress... We haven't been told if we have a case officer yet so don't have a direct contact... Our agent has advised us to sit and wait but I would rather at least try to contact DIBP for a bit of piece of mind that they have forgotten about us!!! I've tried googling a contact for Dibp but those buggers don't seem to want to share their info! Can anyone help? X
  15. Our agent is very similar... Has said that time on the phone chasing them is time they won't be spending granting visas (I can see the logic but that doesn't actually help me...) did you go ahead and call them? What contact details did you use?
  16. We lodged our 190visa via our agent on 23/4/14 - front loading the police and medical checks. Not heard anything yet but we are hopeful next week may bring us some good news :jiggy:Any updates from yourselves??
  17. Thanks for your reply... july has come round fairly quick and I am just praying that we are granted in the next few weeks... We are hoping that we won't be here in September because our children would need to change school (from middle to upper school) and I think it would be too much change for them. Seriously keeping fingers, toes and anything else crossed!!! We would have loved to have had a chance for a recce but decided it was too expensive and would just slow the actual migrating process down for us... we too are taking this time to get prepared - selling up the mountains of belongings we seem to have collected over the years and finding out about renting our house out. We decided not to sell up but to keep our house in the uk and rent it out which will cover the mortgage. What part of oz are you going to? We're off down south to adelaide
  18. Hi all.... We lodged our 190 visa on 23/4/14.... ive been eagerly following the feb 190 posts but as they're a few months ahead of us I thought it might be helpful to start a new thread.... has anyone had any updates on their April lodged 190 visa?? Or even received the dreaded 'delay email'?? We have literally heard nothing at all. We front loaded our medicals and police checks so hoping that speeds up the process... hubby's trade is a lift mechanic... we are desperately hoping to be gone during the summer holidays, I think this can be done!!! Looking forward or hearing others thoughts and experiences. mel and adam ?
  19. Can someone explain what 'team' means... I've seen people saying they are 'team 2 adelaide' etc and I've no idea what that means... Who tells you what team you are? Your CO? We lodged our visa on 23/4/14 so are a few months behind you guys... Thanks in advance
