  1. Thanks Quoll I didn't realise they had to be 17. That does give us something to think about as he wouldn't be 17 until the November.
  2. I'm also a health visitor here in Scotland & would be very interested in hearing about how the role compares to here in the UK. I'm concerned that vacancies for the child & family health nurse roles don't appear to come up that often. Is this the case? Any information would be gratefully received.
  3. I've been following this thread with great interest & am finding it so useful hearing the advice of those who have experience of this. We have received an invite for 189 visa & have 2 children age 14 & 12 who are in 3rd & 1st year respectively. We live in Scotland & I believe this equates to year 8 & 10, but please feel free to correct me. What we hope to do is make the move in Summer 2016 or at least after the exam timetable in May/June. This would enable my eldest to finish 5 years of high school & hopefully obtain some qualifications in Scotland, although he is not particularly academic & we're also going through a change in school examinations! My youngest then I believe would repeat several months of year 10 & be able to complete years 11 & 12 in Australia. She is very academic & will go on to university. Luckily for us they currently see moving as a great adventure & I sincerely hope this doesn't change.
  4. Hi Sam, Im really sorry to hear about what you're going through & hope everything works out. We have looked into moving to Australia several times over the last 10 years & each time we were beginning the process some family/ life event happened where we took the decision to leave things & stay where we were. In hindsite we realise that this was a mistake, although this is obviously personal to us & others would be glad they made the decision to stay. We are now in the process of applying for our visa, although we are now in our 40s, my nursing career has moved from A&E to health visiting which I'm sure will make me less employable as I've been out of the hospital setting for 13yrs. We have 2 teenage children who I'm also sure will find the move a lot more difficult than they would have as toddlers. The big difference is, looking at your timeline you are about to be granted your visa & that gives you a 5 yr opening to go. You are stuck between a rock & a hard place as they say, but follow your heart & gut instinct as opposed to what you perceive others ( & perhaps yourself) think you should do. Sometimes in this life we need to be selfish if that's what will truly make us happy. Good luck with your decision as only you can decide what is right for you. Bigmac x
  5. Bit of a strange question but does anyone know if there is a maximum time limit between lodging an application for a 189 visa & submitting police checks/medicals? We haven't yet received an invite but I'm trying to look ahead as my son sits exams next May & I am trying to work out timescales in relation to this & having to take a trip to validate visa etc. Thank you very much for any help.
  6. Hi Also make sure she's stated that she's a registered nurse herself . Sounds simple, but one of my team leaders hadn't & it meant my application took nearly 8 months instead of the usual 3 as they had to contact her to ask this then wait for her reply.
  7. Hi Boogieboarder79 Hope this is of a little help as I had concerns also about the medical & received a lovely & reassuring reply. http://www.pomsinoz.com/forum/migration-issues/202509-medicals-back-problems.html Good luck & let us all know how you get on when the time comes.
  8. Hi Debs Thank you so much for you're reply, it's really put my mind at rest. We've only submitted our EOI at the moment & wanted to check if anyone else had had similar issues. Hope you're keeping well yourself & good luck with the move to WA when you make it.
  9. I would be grateful if anyone could offer any advice on possible reasons to fail the medical requirement. I have had 2 operations on my spine due to disc problems a long time ago ('97 & '04). Since then I've been fine apart from 2 episodes where I was off my work for 3 months each time due to back problems & the last episode was very recent. Has anyone heard of people failing their medical due to back problems as this is worrying me. Thanks in advance for any help or advice.
