  1. I've just checked the tracker and noticed that duonghm's application was acknowledged on 11 august last year and already have a CO (16 september). Maybe they aren't processed in order of receipt?
  2. Here's a quote from the Department of Health website: http://www.dh.gov.uk/en/Healthcare/Entitlementsandcharges/OverseasVisitors/Browsable/DH_074374 Who is entitled to free NHS treatment; Anyone who is deemed to be ordinarily resident in the UK is entitled to free NHS hospital treatment in England. “Ordinarily resident” is a common law concept interpreted by the House of Lords in 1982 as someone who is living lawfully in the United Kingdom voluntarily and for settled purposes as part of the regular order of their life for the time being, with an identifiable purpose for their residence here which has a sufficient degree of continuity to be properly described as settled. Anyone who is not ordinarily resident is subject to the National Health Service (Charges to Overseas Visitors) Regulations 2011. These regulations place a responsibility on NHS hospitals to establish whether a person is ordinarily resident; or exempt from charges under one of a number of exemption categories; or liable for charges. What about British Nationals? I have paid taxes in the past. Nationality or past or present payments of UK taxes and National Insurance contributions are not taken into consideration when establishing residence. The only thing relevant is whether you ordinarily live in the UK.
  3. Good, let's get back on track; last CO notified after 380 days, the previous one 346, so its around 12-13 months at the moment.
  4. Oh dear, they're not going to like this! Some people have a strange obsession with discussing this vile stuff, good luck with the other thread.
  5. Anybody out there recently got a CO? The tracker seems to have ground to a halt....
  6. Better question could be, "Is anyone NOT watching the exchange rate?".
  7. What kind of severe punishment are we talking about? And what is the other forum (if it can be named here).
  8. I've been following the tracker and not seen any movement for a while. Has everything come to a standstill?
  9. Can't understand why they asked them to be done in Australia. I had all mine done by a local solicitor when I was visiting the UK. £5 for about 20 documents..but that price may vary.
  10. Wow! That is incredible. At this rate I could be there by summer, I mean before the British winter... that would be a shame. I'm just wondering if this is a one-off and taken out of order, or as Les says, an indication of some applicants opting out because of the weakness of the pound.
  11. Marian, Thanks for the prompt reply. Dee Why is precisely where I intend to go but I hadn't checked jobs while I was staying there. I won't be getting a CO until early next year, or earlier the way things are going, so I'll wait until then to start looking in ernest. Thanks for the offer of the Manly Daily, but I'll get my son to bring one over when he comes over in a few months. Good to know there is plenty of work available.
  12. Marian, the Northern Beaches is my preferred destination too. When you say that there is plenty of work, is this just in Ian's type of work, or generally? I won't be expecting to replicate my previous job, I don't need the stress, or doubt at my age that I'll get a chance, but some kind of admin or clerical work would be a bonus to top up the pension. Maybe I'll have to start some serious research on the net.
  13. :idea:If you are going to fund from savings seriously consider buying up to 50% of the visa cost as your application proceeds, as you cannot predict the exchange rate. Building up a fund by buying Aus $s each month will get the average exchange rate for some of your £s and will not leave you with a large bill to pay just when the £ hits a dip. This is an excellent piece of advice. Just like drip feeding an investment into a unit trust, you average out the cost avoiding a possible big drop in the exchange rate when you make the big payment.
  14. This makes sense to me rather than the Oz govt. rushing them through to top up its coffers. It can't need the money that badly, surely! Any idea how often these stats are issued, or when the last ones were?
  15. Are applications taken in strict order? i.e. COs allocated in strict order.
  16. Not sure about this. Its been falling for a few months now, a long time before the end of the Oz financial year.
  17. The timeline is falling like a stone! Anyone any idea why? Is it the strong AUD$, falling UK house prices, a combination?
