  1. Hi, Are you able to advise what new rule you are referring to? Many Thanks
  2. I have already posted this in the parent visa section, but thought it may have more of audience here as I am sure the Financial Sponsor question would apply to all family visas. Hi Everyone! My mother has a 143 queue date of the 16th September 2016. She would like to apply for the 870 visa - 3 year validity. I know that the sponsor has to be approved before the visa gets applied for. This is no problem - however my spouse has just been made redundant and they are the main financial earner in our household. The information on the immi site says that the income test needs to be passed and this is based on last financial year's tax statement. Do they ask for any other information pertaining to current employment such as proof of employment? A job should be found job fairly quickly, so that is not a concern but as we all know, after years and years of waiting, we are keen to get Mum here so would like to get the ball rolling asap. Another question I have is regarding sponsorship of more than one parent. If for e.g my brother in law sponsors my mum instead, would he be able to sponsor his mum at a later stage too? Many Thanks in advance for any help received!

  4. I love my mother dearly and she is currently in the queue - Sept 2016 application date however I would rather stick hot needles in my eye than have a labor government.
  5. One of my kids has a birthday on the 26th of July. If we had started her at 4.5 years, she would have been in kindy with some children already turned 6 by the time school starts in January. We kept her back and she is now one of the oldest with some of her friends 12-14 months younger. Likewise, my son is a March baby - we too kept him back - he started just before his 6th birthday. His best friend however, is 14 months younger - my son has just turned 10 and his bestie only turns 9 in July. My point being is that moving your child into a higher grade the potential is that will be a huge gap between him and some of the kids in the year. The fact that you don't seem to want to grasp is that this is NSW government legislation - the cut off is July 31 whether you like it or not. The fact that your son has done 1.5 years of school is irrelevant to them. You need to accept that by moving here you need to adjust your expectations and fit in with the law of the land. Realise that schools are not going to bend the rules just for you 'because he has already been schooled for 1 and a half years'. They don't care about you or your son's personal circumstances - if they make a concession for one, they have to consider making a concession for all. Part of moving to a different country is accepting the way things work and if you really do not want to compromise and accept this, perhaps the best option for your son's education is to stay in the UK or wait until he is 18 and his schooling is out of the way. An option, aside of staying in the UK, is to contact private schools. As they are independently run, you may find that they are not as stringent on the 31st July cut off as the government schools. Expect to pay minimum of $10,000 for an average private school. Maybe less if you go Catholic.
  6. Every single Brit that has arrived at our school in Sydney has put their child into the age appropriate year. On arrival, some have been more advanced than others - if your child is found to be one of these, you will find that they are put into an extension class once or twice a week whereby they are given work which is harder than what the rest of the class is doing. Despite your assertions that your child would be too advanced in his/her learning capabilities to be put into kindy - this may not be the case once here. It is an entirely different education system. In fact some of the said children of the families I have mentioned actually struggled and had to be put into into classes for extra help. In a normal year, there could be an age gap of up to 18 months between the youngest and the oldest student. To suggest putting your child into a year or 2 above whereby they would be potentially up to 2 and a half years / 3 years younger than some of peers would not be acceptable by most if not all of the principals regardless of how many years your child has been in school and how smart/intelligent you think they are. My third child is in yr 4 and in all my years of having kids at school, I have never seen or heard of any child - local or international - go into a higher year based on academic ability. Any superior academic ability is dealt with within the year ,with like I said above, managing and controlling that childs learning through extra work, both at school and at home. If you feel so strongly about this, perhaps it would be in your childs best interest to stay and continue their education in the UK - it is quite unlikely you will get the outcome you want in Australia.
  7. Hate to be the bearer of bad news, but you are probably looking at another 3 to 4 years wait. My mum's application went in Sept 16 and we think we are being overly optimistic at hoping for a Dec 2020 visa grant.
  8. Good evening everyone! My mum has a 143 visa lodgement date of the 16th September 2016. We know that the waiting time has blown out since she applied, so we realise that she isn't likely to get a visa before at least Dec 2020 (does that sound right?) With regards to this new temporary visa that is coming out - we are unsure if it would be worth our while getting an application in. If she isn't one of the 15000 for the first year's worth of applications, she is then pushed into another year of waiting in the queue for the temp visa, so by the time that gets granted, it would almost be time for the 143 to be granted. The 600 visa - she can stay in Aus for 12 months out of an 18 month period, so she could stay in Aus for eg 7 months, go to the UK to stay with my siblings for 4 months and then come back for 5 months. After this, she can go home again - and either wait for the 143 or is she able to apply for another 600 or normal tourist visa? On a side, does anyone know where we are up to with processing? I have tried the border.gov and the other home affairs addresses several times using both mine and my husbands e-mails, but I no longer get replies. Many Thanks in advance
  9. Should be easy to pick up - I doubt there are that many Hong Kongers dating illegal immigrant Albanians living in the UK.
  10. If your partner values his relationship with his children and wants to see them during the week, I would definitely not recommend the Central Coast if working in Alexandria. He would leave before they wake up and would more than likely not see them much in the evening either. 2 years is short in theory but very long in practice. I have several friends who have left Sydney to move to CC - they commute only a couple of days each and find it a drag. One drives, another catches public transport. The Pacific Highway is the only rd out to the CC and there are many accidents especially around Warnervale for some reason. Get caught in this and you are in traffic hell. Have you considered the Sutherland Shire? Doing a search for Houses between $500 and $550 returns 181 properties. Miranda for eg to the city is only 38 mins / 19.4 km's by car - much more reasonable than the CC commute.
  11. I have read a similar article via another source this morning. From what I have read, they have become stricter with the processing of the visa's and the criteria being met/not met - not necessarily reducing the number of visa's. Applicants in the system still need to be looked at and processed, still taking time and using resources whether the visa application outcome is successful or not.
  12. When selling a property abroad - Can anyone let me know if CGT is payable on the gain since A) The date you first moved to OZ - on a temporary visa e.g the 457 or B) The date that you gained PR Many Thanks, Purplealster
  13. Hi Linday and Mike, Thanks very much for your responses. My Mum does pass the balance of family test as my sister and I are her only biological children. She did/does have step children but they ceased to be counted when my Dad died in 2005. But seeing as we are both here, 50% of her children would have been here anyway. My husband would love to get his Mum over as well, but he has a brother in London and a sister in New York so sadly she fails the BOF test. Does anyone know what the current processing time is for the CPV? I have heard it being mentioned that it is about 2 years provided there arent any issues? Regards, Adrienne
  14. Hi There, Apologies for gatecrashing this thread - I wasnt sure where to post my question. My Mom is reaching the time upon which she can apply for the CPV. I just wanted to confirm that my husband is able to sponsor her as an inlaw? I do not work however, he is a high bracket earner ($220,000+), we own our house and we have savings in the bank. My younger sister has been here since 2008 (but can only apply for PR April 2013), works for a large organisation and has just bought a house with her partner - so the financial obligation would be split between them and us. I guess my sister would be able to sponsor her at some point when she gets PR but as my husband earns substantially more money than her, thought an application done by ourselves would sit better with immigration. Many Thanks Purplealster.
