  1. Of course you are - I remember now. At my age it's hard to keep track of all these usernames. The shopping list is challenging enough. Start chasing around June if you really want a CO - you may just find you get one! Cheers Steve
  2. Hello. Well as the saying goes I could not possibly comment! Only DIAC would know that. We could do an estimate however. Are you on the tracker? What was the date of (a) your original 103 acknowledgement and (b) your 173 acknowledgement ...and apologies if you've told me before, I couldn't find the info. Cheers Steve
  3. Agree with Alan's succinct comment - with the visa you are applying for you would have no such restrictions. Cheers Steve
  4. Hello I am aware of one example of this, and I believe the acknowledgement date of the 103 visa was used by the Parent Visa Centre. Interestingly, that applicant was actually processed ahead of the normal CPV applicants, but I put this down to human factors at DIAC. I confess I didn't quite catch on to the point you were making about the dates though. And even if you were in Australia at the time you got a CO, there's still a month or two of processing to go through before visa grant. I hope this helps. Cheers Steve
  5. Hello Mike Linda is correct, you should ignore it. The question has been asked in the past, and the explanation is that an application is only put in a queue if it has gone through all the steps (up to visa grant) and there are no visas available for DIAC to grant. At the moment there seem to be plenty of visas available - cost and recession have something to do with this. Hope that helps. Best wishes Steve
  6. Hi Matt This is a really tough one for you; the news from Queensland paints a picture of unmitigated catastrophe. We can all see the pictures. I'd be inclined to delay or head temporarily for somewhere slightly drier (the Arabian desert perhaps) if you can - not easy I know (and it absolutely chucked it down last night in Melbourne, so even Vic is getting a soaking). And who knows when the Qld deluges will stop log enough to allow mopping up to start? Pretty awful. Steve
  7. You can access the payment mandate here http://www.uk.embassy.gov.au/files/lhlh/Payment%20Mandate.pdf
  8. I think we all expected some sanity to return to currencies in 2011, and a sort of correction seemed to get underway yesterday at last. The pity is that the dollar had climbed so high in December. If this trend continues however, the option to pay the final VAC in sterling will become attractive. Sadly, part of the influence has been the flooding in Queensland, but there were other factors too which pointed to better economic conditions in the UK for example. So, a good start to 2011 and let's hope for this to continue preferably in a measured way. All the best Steve
  9. Hello Have a look at dima_fees - Australian High Commission. There is a procedure then for getting the receipt to Perth to let your CO know you have paid. sirmatt101 went through this and will I'm sure not mind providing a quick summary of the steps. Good luck. Steve
  10. Hello there. Congratulations! All updated and, yes, we still tag on a red star in the granted visa list. Should be platinum really. Best wishes Steve
  11. Hello; we arrived with the regulation 40kg + hand baggage. It's been interesting to see what we could do without really! But until we know we can put roots down here (see "exchange rate section") we're hanging on to our little place in the UK. But one day we too would be interested in experiences of shipping stuff; and if the exchange rate continues like this, there may well be a small shipment when we next visit the shops in the UK! Cheers Steve
  12. And Happy New Year from here in Melbourne, where it is already hangover day, ie Jan 1. Yesterday was warmish, 41.1 max with a wind resembling a jet engine exhaust. Fortunately these things never last long and we'll be back to a more civilised 27 today. Enjoy the celebrations over in the west! Bets wishes Steve
  13. This is not good at all. One small transaction we did yesterday was at 1.49ish. The pundits speak of a correction but it involves factors (a deflating of the Chinese property bubble for example) which are themselves uncertain. And we do need UK interest rates to start coming back to normality, a move which may not happen until the impact of the VAT rise has been assessed. We have to grin and bear it for now, but it is painful. Cheers Steve
  14. Happy Christmas all! An exhausting few weeks for us, with the added pressure of a plummeting sterling. My hopes are for a return to currency sanity in 2011 (thanks Les!). Well done Les for nudging your way to a CO. Now you have the added fun of shelling out for the second VAC to look forward to. Oh sorry, that sounds a bit unseasonal. Anyway, signing off now for a few days - enjoy the festivities. Cheers Steve
  15. Quite so. Goin' straight now, guv, seen the light and all that. And now for something completely different.... The Aussie dollar is still climbing, mainly against sterling and the Euro now. There are new CPV applicants appearing on the tracker however, which means that people are assessing the cost against the current rates. 2011 will be interesting, as UK interest rates start to rise - will sterling be tempting enough for investors I wonder. We'll know about the effects of winter, the VAT rise and other measures by April - coinciding with springtime.
  16. Happy Christmas to you also Audie! We will all be following your news with great interest. That's a lot of snow. They're moaning over in England about 10cm - though I'm glad I'm here not there.
  17. Good thinking Matt. I wish I'd done that then I could have brought my other computer, the lack of which will eventually set me back some dosh here. We were about 10% overweight, which was ignored.
  18. That's worrying. Someone attempting to smuggle Vegemite into Australia.
  19. Great! I have no idea where we'll be sitting, but I hope it's not too close to the famous trumpeter. It will actually be the first time I've watched England play a test match live. Really looking forward to it. Fingers crossed for stable Melbourne weather. Cheers Steve
  20. Perth, Day 3, close of play. All over bar the shouting. Pity about the batting eh? Ah well, one-all going to Melbourne makes it exciting. We'll be at day 3 at the MCG, and with a bit of luck we'll be back in the ascendancy. Best wishes Steve
  21. Hello Peewit Welcome to a much more humane forum! Good to keep in touch with you. The exchange rate is giving me grief. But we have Medicare. Cheers Steve
  22. It's tough out here Les. I've had to move money in tranches, each time hoping the next will be better. But it never is. Roll on 2011 and beyond.
  23. I really sympathise Sandy. We're not missing that weather at all; today is almost perfect, breezy, not too hot. Long may it last. We watch the weather forecasts there too, our daughter is suffering a bit in London! All the best Steve
