Jodes
Can someone help? Was just wondering if your account gets checked for the $5000 when you go out there? And when applying for the visa?
Peach
Can someone help? Was just wondering if your account gets checked for the $5000 when you go out there? And when applying for the visa? Not when applying for the visa, but when you arrive at immigration in Australia they can and do sometimes ask to see evidence that you can support yourself. This can be in the form of a bank statement or credit card statement with an unused $5k limit.
blossom
The only visa I had to show funds for before getting was the working holiday visa. That was a long time ago and might have changed now. I know of people from high risk countries who were asked to show funds for a student visa. They didn't ask me though.

Guest
They can do. Fwiw, I'd not advise pitching up without some funds to fall back on. Work may not happen, cost of living and rent etc still needs to be paid and all that.
ali
I think the checks seem to be random (from reading posts on here) - 50 - 50 chance of being asked I guess.
Britpop
I've not met anyone who's been checked but don't underestimate how much you'll spend. I wouldn't come if you don't have it, save more and come later if that's the case Edited February 24, 2014 by Britpop
TaxbackerBrian
I think them checking very much depends on which country you arrive from. That being said, i would make sure to bring sufficient funds to Aus with you, it can take a while to find a job and Australia can be expensive.
