A reminder that it's not a free-for-all on the internet.

 

Three people in the last week have been found guilty in a court of law over what they posted on social networking sites.

 

Lalit Modi found guilty of libel after allegations on Twitter that former New Zealand cricket captain - Chris Cairns was involved in match fixing. Modi has to pay £90,000 damages and £400,000 legal costs (along with his own legal costs).

A South Wales university student has been jailed for 56 days for inciting racial hatred over what he tweeted about the collapse of Fabrice Muamba.

A Newcastle university student, Joshua Cryer, has been handed a two year community order and 240 hours community service over abusive tweets he sent to former footballer Stan Collymore.
