457 application was lodged last week so now we wait. We do not need medicals as we won't be working in health or child environments but we do have 2 children 6 & 5 months. Has anyone else gone on a 457 with children and not needed medicals?

Under 457 Sponsorship Visa, a case worker will seek information on a medical if so required, you would of filled out a 1066 form for this, in this 1066 form it states;

quote;

Health requirements

All applicants must meet Australia’s health requirements. You

and any family members included in this application may be

required to undergo a chest x-ray and medical examination in

order to meet the criteria for the grant of a subclass 457 visa.

Refer to form 1163i Health requirement for temporary entry

to Australia for further details.

I just had mine approved with an 8 month old and he did not need one

If people read their application forms, the word (MAY) is used, so yes you was not asked, many other will be ok too, others may not, depends on the case worker within DIAC, thats a fact.

Thats fine but OP asked if anyone had got one without having a medical and I simply informed him I have, my interpretation of his post was that he knew that this was a possibility but was curious, please avoid what could be seen as unneeded aggressive posts

Please I do NOT mean to be rude, or make my posts as being agressive, I am within 457 Sponsorship, I do get questions daily of this very issue, in 3 months I have had 9 Clients who were asked to provide a Medical. So I was just stating, some will be asked and others not.

Back to OP, the wording made my reply, then again one questions why concerned with the children unless there is a issue there.

Thanks for the replies. I read the 1066 and saw the wording "may" which is why I asked the question. What's the likehood? I wanted others experiences. There are no medical issues at all. But we have started to make travel plans as I start my new job beginning of April subject to issue of the visa. Our agent has said to expect the visa to be granted in 2 - 3 weeks but obviously if the children did need medicals then this would delay things. We won't be working in health or children's environments but obviously the children will be going into these environments with school and childcare. So just wondering really. I am pleased to hear that some have had them granted without medicals. Of course I would prefer my children not to have chest x rays if they don't need them and don't present a risk.

Colterry, I am sure you did not intend your post to be overtly rude or aggressive but I can see why Marchatfield was offended.

There is insufficient information on your post to answer as it will depend on a number of factors specific to each individual matter.

Factors which determine whether medicals or x rays are required include:

· Country of passport;

· Countries travelled to in the last 5 years;

· Occupation;

· Age;

· Pre existing medical conditions;

· Whether applicants intend to enter a classroom.

If you used an agent they should advise you if medicals or x rays are required. Otherwise the case officer will request them if necessary.

How will the case officer know what countries we have travelled to in the last 5 years? Its not on the form. My son & husband haves only been within Europe and the USA, my daughter hasn't been anywhere. I have travelled more widely but nowhere considered to be a risk. We are all on UK passports, have no pre existing conditions, aren't working in occupations which present a risk (ie not medical or educational). But of course we will enter a classroom as my son will go to school. The agent has lodged our application without needing them. I just wondered if the DIAC are likely to request them later.

Hi there , My Husbands prospective employer lodged our 457 visa on 26/10 2 of our children have epilepsy and our agent told us prior to lodgement they may need a medical meantime we were told to send reports from their specialist., which we did and we noticed on the DIAC website tracking progress of our visa that they requested more info, 2 weeks after lodgement. Our agent employed by hubbys employer has been useless didnt follow this up despite us questioning whether they needed medicals or not. To cut a long story short we received an email last week from our agent to say the CO stated they needed a medical which should have been done 2 months ago. Today they attended their medical which went fine hopefully hear soon. In your case if your visa has been lodged and you havent heard anything i am sure your children wont need them also my other child who is healthy did not require a medical , it tends to be if they have a pre-existing medical condition. Hope this helps

It is a specific question on the form 1066. Only stays of longer than 3 month in one country are relevant.

As an agent is involved you should ask them as they are privy to all of your information.

If you are still unsure see form 1163i for further information on medical requirements.
