Quoll
In Victoria your daughter will be going into year 1 this year (2012) if she turns 6 in February. She will be amongst the youngest but nothing to worry about.

Guest MichelleNZ
A lot of the schools seem to be a combination Prep/Year one classes, so she may have a mixture of 5 and 6 year olds in the class anyway, so lots of little first timers!

StKildaboy
The system here in Victoria actually gives more flexibility than back home. As your daughter turns 6 in February she would be eligible to be in prep or grade 1. Obviously she would either be a young grade 1 or an old prep child. It all depends how 'school ready' she is and what schooling she has previously had. Speak to the Principal of the school for more advice. What you find in practice is that the ages in different year levels overlap slightly ans so some prep children can be older than grade 1 students.
