Hi all

Does anyone live in Goulburn and commute to Canberra daily? Is it doable? GoogleMaps says it's just over an hour. Is that right? Would you do it? If you do live in Goulburn/Queanbeyan please get in touch as Husband seems very keen on there instead of ACT now so all my ACT research is a bit wasted!

I do know some people who do it and, for them, it has been OK. It is a bit of a boring drive but if you plug into an audio book and set cruise control it isnt too arduous. You can usually do it in just under the hour although in the winter it can get a bit treacherous on the highway and the fog lingers in the winter as well. If you are leaving early to arrive at work early or leave work late then often you will see roos on the road (around dawn is most usual) and they can be a bit scary. It will also cost a bit in petrol and wear and tear on your car.

On the plus side the real estate is significantly cheaper, Goulburn is a bit of a hick town (they have a big merino as their landmark for heavens sake!!!) but it has shops and pubs and a cathedral. It's definitely country NSW!!!

In the drought they were within days of having to truck in water because their water supply was down to single figures.

Give it a go, you dont have much to lose except the cost of relocating if you decide it isnt for you.

Queanbeyan is a different place altogether - it's almost a dormitory suburb of ACT and takes less time to commute than from some far flung ACT suburbs.

If you have kids then living in NSW would mean they go to NSW schools and some families from Queanbeyan want their kids in ACT schools but they dont have any priority in placement and just have to take what they are given.
