Every beach has permanent and occasional hazards that you may need to look out for. To assist you in looking out for these hazards and to show supervised areas, lifesaving services use a number of safety flags. What do the beach safety flags look like and what do they mean? The red and yellow flags show the supervised area of the beach and that a lifesaving service is operating. No red and yellow flags indicates there is no supervision. NO FLAGS = NO SWIM Indicates that the beach is closed and that you should not enter the water. Indicates the area where board riding and surfing is not permitted. Indicates that there are potential hazards in the water. Look out for the yellow warning sign that should be displayed with the yellow flag for further advice. olly Posted October 14, 2011 Share Posted October 14, 2011 Those lifesavers put themselves at such risk all the time for us using the beaches, the least we can do is take notice of the flags and not cause them to go in to save us unless it is necessary. You only have to watch that TV show Bondi Rescue to see how many people don't seem to realise the flag warnings (so many overseas visitors seemed to get rescued in that show not realising the 'swim between the flags' motto.
