Guest scoop
The more I see about buying in property in Aus the more fearful I become! By the time I have paid to move over with the clan, being the only wage earner with a preschooler the more I feel I will not be able to get on the property ladder at all in Aus!! Big second thought running through my head at the mo!! Will the move ever happen??? GULP
Guest Beki
Hi Scoop, I agree, when you add everthing up it's really scary! My agent has just quoted me another £600 just to see me through my skills assessment, which in the long run I think will be an investment because I feel sure I'm going to have to work once we get there just to pay the bills! It must be difficult as the only wage earner, I do feel for you. Chin up though, try not to let money worries get the better of you. For the grafters in this life nothing ever comes easy but if you keep at it you'll get there in the end! Beki
Guest scoop
Cheers Beki much appreciated It's just really scary to thing I may not have enough dosh to get a half decent property when I get there! I've had my own home for over ten years. It's just fear of the unknown I'll have a few more of these I'm sure :? Keep thinking of the sunshine  Cheers again SCoop
Guest Boomer
We are moving to Brisbane soon and first time buyers in Queensland get $7k off the Government to help them get on the property ladder. Don't know if other states offer that. Cheers Boomer

Don't know if other states offer that. Cheers Boomer It is available in all States. And the definition of "First Time Buyers" means first time buying in Australia. So you should all be eligible, unless they change the rules...

Big second thought running through my head at the mo!! Will the move ever happen??? GULP  What type of house are you moving from, and what and where are you hoping to buy ? If you do a direct comparison, the Australian properties are normally cheaper, even after costs. If you take the costs I mentioned, for NSW, but do it for a First Home buyer, it would result in: House Cost $280,000.00 Rates adjustment $127.25 Water adjustment $57.83 Solicitors Fees $925.50 Registration and other fees $310.25 Pest Inspection $121.00 Building Inspection $176.00 LESS $7,000 grant = Net cost of $275,000 This will vary depending on the State you go to, as the stamp duty concession varies, although so do house prices A 3 bed semi detached with 2 bathrooms, in my area, costs about $240,000, but go further inland and it gets cheaper. Would like to move to Maryborough near Fraser island, (friends moving there) if there is a job about :?: Don't mind living a little out of the way as I like a bit of solitude, space for the boy and the dogs. calNgary
I felt a little worried when i added up all the out goings but after a few days of ,, should we ,,shouldn't we ,you realise there isnt much of a choice,, who the hell wants there kids to grow up here?,,overall we probably wont have the 'spare' cash we have here but i dont think we will spend as much in general day to day things ,we found you can take the kids for a good day out and it costs next to nothing,,free bbq's in parks & beaches, free car parking, here for a day out you need to re-mortgage & i didnt spend as much out shopping cause the kids didnt want the choccy and sweets like here ,,there is no doubt we will have to do some adjusting to our lifestyle ,,BUT isnt that why we are going? i think if you want to live there as much as most of us on this site it's a small price to pay,and we will make sure we manage. Scoop off reading your postings you seem to be a very determained person ,i must admit i dont think i could do it alone (that's the coward in me) i am sure you will manage and make friends easily and the aussies we met genuinely want to help you keep your chin up and crack on with your application,,good luck with everything Cal x
Guest Daceys
calNgary Would one lifestyle adjustment be sleep paterns, ie because of the darker evenings, bed earlier thus getting up earlier? I know it sounds daft!!!! but that's one thing on our minds. We are hoping to head towards Brisbane. Al.
calNgary
The dark nights didnt really affect us ,the obvious advantage being you can get the kids to bed earlier ,,the people we met and socialised with didnt pretty much the same as here but rather than going to the pub they met at one of their houses ,,the majority of houses we saw have large outdoor entertaining areas all semi undercover with lighting and they didnt just meat up at weekends ,it was any night of the week which we found a little strange as here its majority weekend socialising..i guess the advantage of bright sunshine first thing is you actually want to get up and in a good mood ,,i'm bad in a morning so this made a refreshing change for my entire family i think ,,overall no real negatives hope this helps Cal x
