Would need to stay in Melbourne for a day or two in a hotel before heading on to North Victoria . Would appreciate suggestions for a good hotel near the airport - child & baby friendly . Would be interested to know people's experiences .

Have not stayed at a hotel near the airport but here is a web site of them, you can see what facilities they have on the web site. Having difficulty with the link but its checkin.com.au. Has all the hotels around the airports. Good luck.

Pretty sure there is a Hilton at the airport but if you're going to be there a couple of days you should definitely come into the city. It's only a 20-30 min bus or taxi ride so it's not too hard, and then you'll be spoiled for choice.

When you arrive in Melbourne head to the information desk at the international arrivals hall. Tell them you want a hotel room for x amount of nights and you should get one with a great rate. I'd head into Melbourne if only just for the night, catch the sky bus (that goes dirrect into Melbourne CBD to southern cross station) There are plenty of hotels not a far walk away. Once there you will have trams at your door step that will take you anywhere.

Only advice is to stay away from Kings street on a friday and saturday night. Lots of night clubs and drunken idiots
