Guest fatpom
Hi, does anybody know if uk gas appliances work in OZ ? do they even have the same gas or is it bottled ? cheers. Worked on the design of a gas appliance some years back. All appliances need to be an appproved (licenced) product for sale in Aus so not sure but it's at least a grey area in your case. There may be a problem with rated pressures - that is, UK gas pressure may be different from Australian - this could cause your appliance to be dangerous... potentially a bomb, but I really don't know? A responsible gas fitter wouldn't fit it for you (& you can't legally do it yourself unless its a bayonet fit). Domestic gas supply is natural gas but bottled gas is common for BBQ's. You can get bottles filled at most gas (petrol) stations. Not all areas have domestic gas supplies, of the areas I've lived in most didn't have gas. You're probably more likely to see it the further south (ie colder) you go.
calNgary
No natural gas around here but it isnt uncommon to convert a cooker to run on bottle gas ,, Cal x
Guest The Picketts
Hi there - I have just shipped a gas hob in our container. When I was in WA in Feb this year I contacted Alinta Gas to ask about bringing over a gas hob and was told that I needed to contact them once it was here and I could have one of their specialist gas inspectors visit to approve it being suitable for installation (at a cost). I should try and get one with a 1/2inch fitting and then it shouldn't be too much of a problem. So fingers crossed! Cheryl
Guest Kendra
Try the website AGL - Competitive gas and electricity rates - Request an Energy Offer they have a phone no. for overseas enquiries and would hopefully know more than I do about fittings, pressures etc.
hedgehog
Has anyone done the math on the: value of used cooker - cost of transporting\conversion opposed to buying a new one?
Guest fatpom
Has anyone done the math on the: value of used cooker - cost of transporting\conversion opposed to buying a new one? :biglaugh: I wondered if anyone else was thinking that too? Transporting white goods is probably not that worthwhile. Fridges particularly aren't suited to the Australian climate. Unless you pack them tight with other goods you're paying lot to transport fresh air also. Ohh Well?
