Is there a train going to 'The pinacles' and/or 'The Wave' in WA?

Hey everyone.

I didn't know where to post this question, since it is about transport really, but hopefully someone will be able to help me.

My family are visiting this August, and my mum wants to see some of the rock formations out in the W.A desert, particularly 'The Wave' and 'The Pinacles'

The only problem is, my spouse and I aren't too keen on the long road journey it would take, especially (And this is a BIG especially) all those huge rigs coming at you from the other direction (In fact the idea makes my spouse, who is epileptic, feel strange )

Is there a train service that goes out into the desert, particularly those places, and if not to those actual places, any other cool rock formations that are out in the desert?

Usually, if we could afford it, I would just say to maybe catch a little plane or something but I don't think that is going to be affordable for us, if it even exists.

I would really appreciate any links, advice, maps, anything that could get us to those places without the need to go on a coach or in a car, otherwise we will not be going :nah::smile:

Thanks!

We have driven to both of those places and I am pretty sure I didn't see a rail line

Not sure about flying??

Hyden and Cervantes aren't that big though

Maybe an option to break the journey up would be to overnight there - that way Pinnacles would be a 3hr drive one day and then again the next instead of 6hrs in one day

I wish that I could just break the trip up, but unfortunately, my spouse can't even go for an hour on those roads with the rigs coming at us - A train, or some other kind of alternate non-coach-or-car way of getting there ie without something coming at us the other way and without the chance of hitting a 'roo and us noticing is literally the only way we would get there.

I am sure we'll work something out though - Thanks for the suggestion

Hi LynzLove,

Both places are fabulous, I've been to Wave Rock 5 times now and love it there. Around that area you also want to try and visit Hippo's Yawn (which I prefer to Wave Rock!), Mulka's Cave, and if you're up for it go hunting for the gnamma hole

There are coach tours that will take you there, and also air charters. I've only ever driven, so I don't know much about them, but try this site for plenty of links: Wave Rock Hyden Western Australia

The drive itself isn't too bad, and there are several different routes so it is possible to do it without passing many road trains at all. Wave Rock is at Hyden which isn't in the desert, it's in the Wheatbelt, so there are plenty of little towns to stop at en route, most out that way are no more than 45 mins apart. Plus there are some other brilliant quirky sites, like the Tin Horse Highway - a must see if you're out that way (I'd go so far as to suggest that you look for a coach tour that specifically takes you down that road) Shire of Kulin - Tin Horse Highway

As far as The Pinnacles, again - not really in the desert as it's at Cervantes which is coastal, north of Perth. When we went, we stayed overnight specifically so that we could go late afternoon to avoid most of the tourists and again at sunrise the next morning. Pinnacles at sunrise is breathtaking, and you'll find that there's just no one else there. Tickets for the Pinnacles last 24 hours, so you only have to pay once to do that.

Again, plenty of coach trips go that way as it's such a popular tourist spot. Try the following: Western Australia, Perth Tour Experts, WA Holidays - Day Tours, Extended Tours, Sightseeing Tours, Holiday Packages and Accommodation | Australian Pinnacle Tours - The Western Australia Tour Specialist | Welcome! who alse go to Wave Rock - perhaps there's a combo buy??

I do hope you enjoy both places. WA has so many amazing spots, the only problem is that they're all so damned far apart!!

Thanks so much! This should help Us out a lot. I really would love for both my partner and I to go, but I thought it would mean us taking a long drive frought with danger. I am sure we can work something out that suits everyone, and make it even better with your detailed help!

Thanks again!
