i came to adeliade 14 mounths ago, within first few months i relized it was not as easy as i thought it would be,

I am a carpenter jioner Kitchen fitter very good at maintenance,it was hard getting the licences but i have them now,and i was very lucky to get a job with a very good kitchen firm the biggest in oz

i was working lots of hours plus doing tiling courses to up grade my skills, i gave the job up after i had been working there for about 8 months, but went back after a few days ,to try again,

i left to go on hols to uk in sept, i had such a good time there ,i extended my say till mid nov,

but now i am back i just cant get motivated, some say i should try moving to Qld, others say mybe try dumptruck course (very good money)

but i really really cant get motivated, i am feeling a little depressed, i am here on my own, its hard, i came over here thinking it would lift my spirit, but i feel i dont fit in,

nothing against the ozzys, its their country and we need to fit in, but i am finding it hard I am 45 and far away from home

any tips on how to get motivated? bryn

i would move any were in oz to be happy . home sick i guess?

Sounds like a touch of home sickness. Do what makes you happy. Move to Qld if you think that will make you happy, but you have to ask yourself why am I unhappy? Is it simply where you are living in Oz or the employment options...in which case look at other areas. Do you miss your friends, family and what you have left behind? You can't replace these people. What hobbies do you have? Sports etc how could you get out and meet new people?

If none of these things float your boat then maybe Oz isn't the right place for you. It took you your whole life to "fit in" at home and it's going to take time and effort to "fit in" here. Have you thought about travelling round Oz, maybe you'll find somewhere you like and want to settle.

Good Luck and Keep smiling!

Dunno if dogs are your thing, however I was feeling a bit down and volunteered at the local dogs home to give me something to do which wasn't work related.

Best move I made- dogs are always pleased to see you and cheer you up no end.

I addition I've met some great folk to socialise with.

Hope this helps :-)

Sounds like depression might be rearing it's ugly head again... Please stop sitting at home and get out there, I like the dog idea! If you aren't motivated to give Oz a good go it's not going to happen for you and maybe home is the best option at the moment. Sorry if that's putting it bluntly, but life isn't going to happen for you, you have to make it happen! You're a longtime dead mate..

Keep Smiling

People are more important than places and if you feel that you need the support of friends and family in the UK at the moment then you do what you need to!

Australia will still be there for you to explore when you feel a bit stronger and motivated!

Good Luck

I have been here for 14 years going back in7 weeks - my partner (he is Aussie) and I are going on holiday tomorow and all the planning and stuff - ohhh I'm having second thoughts - I think I just hate where I live - Campelltown NSW - I think I've been extremely narrow minded and should have moved somewhere else - oh well - I love australia - heh Nigel answer that ...

Bryn, you sound depressed mate and unable to focus. I've suffered it all my life and whenever I feel it coming on, I force myself to counteract the inertia.........even though I may not feel like it, I go fishing, or pick up the camera and go and take some pics.........strangely enough, some of those I consider my best are my "dark" ones that mirror my mental phase at that time.

Perhaps you're feeling this way because you're not working and not the other way around?

Don't let yourself slide mate.........you've travelled Australia for 4 yrs so you've proved yourself capable of sterner stuff........as hard as it may seem, try and motivate yourself otherwise it will consume you. If you feel motivated to bugger off back to the UK, then go for it........harming your health ain't worth the indecision mate.

good luck.

I think Kev talks alot of sense. Do you think Bryan that coming back will make you Happy?

You need to deal with this before you come back, and if you can do that then Aus may be just up you street. I'm saying this because I get the impression you were not happy in the UK.

If you can sort your head out then you will make the right choice.

Good Luck Mate John
