Guest nici
Hi all, We are a family of 6 wanting to move out of England to start a new life for the sake of our kids (although leaving them here has crossed my mind). I am 33 and an accounts manager for a Transport Co. and hubbie is a truck driver. Our little darlings (yeah right) are 8,8,11 & 15. I have a first cousin in Katoomba NSW, so are heading for there if poss!! I have checked out the Aus Gov website and don't think we are eligible for a visa. Could we apply due to family perhaps???? All advice & help would be appreciated. I do know that alot of people probably ask for the same assistance for you to never hear from them again once they understand how hard it can be, BUT, we are seriously fed up in UK and will try all avenues to get there! Nici  [/b]
Guest poeblo
Hi Nikki I am Paula and from Lancashire . I totally know what you are feeling, we are the same, We have twins aged 7 yrs and a good example of what this country is like for kids compared to when I was a kid, our dentist has stopped treating our kids cos he want us to pay for them. They now have no dentist !! I can only get them into one if they have tooth ache. We have our visas and are off to Brisbane nxt July. We did it through an immigration specialist, which is worth it, you can do a free assement online and they wont take you on if they think you wont get in . http://www.australianmigrationspecialists.com.au/ they are so short of work in some states there you can get a work visa if you agree to stay in that state for 2 yrs, I know they are doing it in adelaide and melbourne. Try the link above and see where you get with it , let me know Nikki Good luck Paula
Guest dmg+3
Hi Nici We used an agent called Ian Harrop, see http://www.ianharrop.co.uk. He will give you a free consulation over the telephone, make sure you have all your details to hand, ie qualifications etc. We were initially told by an australian immigration agent that we were not eligible, but a friend of a friend who had used ian harrop give us his number and as they the rest is history. Guest choobs
I know how you feel. We're going the skilled-sponsored route, whereby my occupation gives half the points and my wife's family connection gives the other half. So you're already halfway there - what do you and your partner do? I know what you mean about Britain - sometimes I feel like I'm deserting a sinking ship, but the way society is going in this country - particularly with the younger generation - I'm not prepared to stay and watch it burn
Bonzer
Hi Nici You should be able to use your first cousin in your case ,as I had a similiar thing ,but mine are second's so no go. Go to immi web site and look for spouse sponsored ,and it will be on there. We used an agent and at the moment we are nearly in ,the main application is in all the meds ,x-rays ,blood tests the lot . just doing the waiting game now . No worries mate. Our agent was Global9.org or e-mail visa@global9.org hope this helps John and Angela
Guest nici
Thanks to all of you for giving me so much information. I will be doing a lot of phoning and emailing over the next few days and will let you know how we get on. Good luck to you all with your applications and I hope that you all get to where you want to be. Much appreciated Nici, Roger and family. PS Does anyone know if I can use a CPC (Certifcate of Professional Competence) to get in with. Basically it is the laws and regs of running a transport business and is quite a high qualification here in England........supposedly!!
Guest nici
Hi Nikki I am Paula and from Lancashire . I totally know what you are feeling, we are the same, We have twins aged 7 yrs We have our visas and are off to Brisbane nxt July. Hi Paula, Thankyou for the advice. To be honest I have been fed up with this place for a long time and am worried about the future for my kids and that really is the sole reason for leaving. It was after a trip to Florida in October when I thought "there is more to life and a happier one to be found". Chatting to people in USA on the forums, it was actually the ex-brits over there that suggested I try Oz. Now I am totally hooked on going and the hubby is getting used to the idea quite quickly but the kids are not so keen! We are thinking of taking a trip over there in our summer (want to experience life over there, not just take it as a 2 week break by the beach) to see how we feel about the place. How long did the whole process take? Could you let me know the stages and roughly how long it has taken?? Sorry if I am being a pain. Good luck with Brisbane, I hope the twins are excited and if not tell 'em next year father Xmas will visit on the beach lol
Guest Jaibee
I hope you all have great new lives in Oz but.... don't think of it as a cure all. Just as there are things that irritate you here in the UK there will be there too. There is no utopia. Dentists are not free, healthcare is not free. Taxation is fairly high and the cost of living is high too (Government websites warn of this) Politics and Politicians are still really annoying and society has the same problems (but with less people than the UK). Move to Oz because you want the things it can offer, mainly space, climate and great beaches NOT because you are running away from the UK.
Guest ABCDiamond
We are thinking of taking a trip over there in our summer (want to experience life over there, not just take it as a 2 week break by the beach) to see how we feel about the place. If you do plan on doing that, I know someone who has a couple of furnished houses, that they let out in Brisbane East/Bayside. Staying in a house, rather than a Hotel can give a better feel for the country. It's also cheaper Here's the link: http://www.destinationbrisbane.com.au/ But let me know if you need any more info. (Just noticed that it wasn't you that mentioned Brisbane ... oh well.. )
Guest ABCDiamond
Dentists are not free, healthcare is not free. A lot of the healthcare can be free, with Bulk Billing Doctors and the free Hospital System, although it isn't the same as the UK. We do have waiting lists here for non emergency operations etc., unless you have private cover, which 43% of the population do have. But the emergency services that I have used have been very good, and free, including airlifting to hospital on one occasion, and being admitted for heart checks on another very quickly. On the Free Medicare system. Residents on low incomes, after 2 years, can also get free Dental treatment, but there are waiting lists. Some Free Dental work is also available in many schools for primary children, with Dental van visits to the shools , paid by Local or State governments. Here is a quote from: http://www.health.wa.gov.au/services/category.cfm?Topic_ID=9 SCHOOL DENTAL SERVICE in WA Free basic dental care is provided to all school children from pre-primary to year 11 (year 12 in remote localities). There is strong emphasis on prevention, oral health education and early intervention to fix dental problems. This can vary between States. We do pay for prescriptions, including childrens ones, although there are caps on the maximums we need to pay. Some general medical info is here: Medical But I agree it isn't Utopia, and if anyone does find that place, let us all know
Guest mtowse
Hi Niki, We're waiting at the mo for our police checks and medicals and we're all getting very anxious. It's such a stressful thing. We've gone through an agent (four corners) and have found them very helpful. It might be an idea to speak to someone like that, as there are loads of different types of visas. Good luck, Mark, Steph and Bubs x
