This may sound a bit stupid but what exactly is a duplex? We have looked at lots of property and this term frequently comes up. Is it like a semi? Or is there more to it than that?? Many thanks.

A unit is where one house has been knocked down and several new homes have been built on the plot. My uncle lives in a two bed unit on a plot of 5. It's cosy but enough for him and his wife.

I googled what a duplex is and it comes up as

Duplex is fast becoming one of the most efficient

and most popular types of residential

construction in metropolitan areas. Building 2

residences on a single block of land makes the

great Australian dream still affordable.

I only know what it was in the UK.:wideeyed:

JoJo might remember this too, but the flats (on Avebury Avenue, JoJo) near us were a combination of duplex and ordinary apartments. The duplexes were on the top floor and just meant that they were on two floors. Ooh la la, very posh with a view of the sportsground and river,- and a price to match!

Looking it up in our dictionary it says that 'duplex' means 'double' and can be applied to a house too. So, a duplex house would be semi-detached.

Yours reading-out-of-the-dictionary,

LC

As stated a Duplex is 2 residences attached on one block of land, normally they have fences separating the yards. Hope this helps.

Yes, a Duplex is two adjoined houses built on one block.

not to be confused with a CONDOMinium which is more to do with joint ownership.

G'day

Close, but not quite right. A duplex is one of two houses built on the same block of land. There is no requirement for the buildings to be adjoined. They can have a shared wall but it is not a requirement, and more often than not, don't.

Okay, now does anybody want to guess what a triplex is?
