Eera
Depends on the State, here in QLD you don't actually need to do a test, just a day long assessment called QRide. Bear in mind too that over here you can't ride unsupervised on L plates like you can in the UK; there's no such thing as CBT and you need to be escorted everywhere by someone who (I think) needs an unrestricted licence, so if your QRide assessor thinks you need lessons before the assessment you're stuck having to pay for the experience. QLD transport is changing the regs in the next couple of months, they're upping the maximum engine size from 250 to 650cc but there'll be an approved list of learner's bikes, they're also putting P-plates on noobs. But, as with all government agencies, they've not fully decided what they're doing and won't tell the riding schools. When they introduced QRide they didn't actually thell the instructors what they were supposed to be doing until 2 weeks after the advent of it. All this is specific to QLD, have no idea what the other states do.
