My partner and i should be moving to Adelaide in the next 18 months or so. Where is a nice place to live? We are a young couple, who enjoy socialising, the beach, the pub!! It would be nice to start doing a little research on this type of thing. Any help would be most appreciated! :)

I would check out Real Estate, Property, Land and Homes for Sale, lease and rent - realestate.com.au as it gives an idea of prices for particular areas for both renting and for sale.

There is also another forum PomsInAdelaide that might be worth you checking out and looking through some old posts.

Once you have had a bit of a look, you might be able to narrow it down and ask people about specific areas that are of interest to you (e.g. city centre, particular beach areas, etc). I am from South Australia, so happy to help if I can.

Start you search in North Adelaide. There are tons of apartments and lovely little 2 bed houses to rent. You can walk to the city and there are loads of restaurants, cafes and pubs to try out. When the festivals are on you don't have the hassle of finding taxis etc. Is close to the hospitals and Adelaide Oval for the cricket. We have friends who live there and I'm very jealous of their lifestyle.

If I was a childless couple, its where I'd live without a doubt.

Yes, I would agree with that - we recently had a long weekend in Adelaide and stayed in North Adelaide (Melbourne street) and loved it. Definately seemed the best part of the city - Lots of bars, restaurants and seemed the most livliest part of the city and the loveliest!

North Adelaide is a brilliant suggestion! It can be a little expensive though, just to warn you, but I agree the lifestyle would be great. Alternatively you could opt for a suburb very close by the North Adelaide to make it a bit cheaper - it would a bit more of a walk or a short taxi ride, but if affordability is an issue it could be an option. I lived a suburb (Devon Park) close by, not a well known suburb but was close and handy (there are a lot of suburbs close by, not classed as North Adelaide).

The beach would be approximately 20-30mins or so drive away from North Adelaide.

Thanks very much all of you for your suggestions. We also like the idea of living near the beach too, would there be anywhere near the beach which has a socialising feel to it too (bars, cafes, restaurants etc) thanks :notworthy:

Look into Glenelg and Henley Beach for near the beach areas. Again these are the more expensive areas, but most popular. Glenelg is a regular spot for nights out too.

Hope it helps.

Slightly cheaper than Glenelg is Semaphore and Largs Bay. Semaphore is like a seaside town with a great High Street to walk up and a top pub for meals and a drink. Its right on the beach. Rentals are affordable and its probably 15 minutes to the city. Largs Bay is a bit further along towards Henley Beach and again is cheaper than Glenelg. I found these rentals in Semaphore

20/30 SEMPAHORE ROAD SEMAPHORE

1/17 NAPIER STREET SEMAPHORE

U 1/46 ESPLANADE SEMAPHORE

18/86 ESPLANADE SEMAPHORE

and these in Largs Bay

3/145 MEAD STREET LARGS BAY

LARGS BAY

570 MILITARY ROAD LARGS NORTH

though this last one on Military Road might be a bit busy as its a main road.

Thanks guys, this is great info, i can now start some research!! We lived in Sydney's CBD for 2 years which was awesome but regreted not going to the beach that much. So coming from busy London to a beach front property would a totally new and amazing experience Its so exciting but we still have a long way to go!! xxx

I would suggest North Adelaide also its where we live. :)

It is a bit more expensive, but if you like the cosmopolitan lifestyle, and the ability to walk into the CBD its great. Also, by the time you take into account the time saved in travel and parking costs etc it actually isnt any more expensive (for us anyway)

I definitely agree with the sugesstions above.

North Adelaide, Glenelg or the CBD are the most lively places. From the City to Glenelg will only take about 20 minutes anyway.

We opted for the City as like you wanted the buzz of Bars, Cafes, Restuarants etc. Also it made sense as we both expected to be working in the City so it was more convenient when looking for work.

I can also recommend the Poms In Adelaide forum if you are looking to come to Adelaide.

Good luck.

Semaphore is a good place to film the next film, Shaun of the dead...

The best advice islook look before you jump. One mans poision is another mans ....

Dependant on what you are coming for, That will point you in the right direction.

The beach life is where we wanted and where we have settled. The down side is we are a short drive from the bright lights and night life of the City. Having said that Hindley street at the weekend does not appeal to us in the slightest.

Henley Square is okay enough for a night out but not for a life time. YOu see we all have different thoughts.

If you need anymore infd drop us a note and we can always show you some pics or answer any Q.

Good luck

Hi there, Me and my partner are 20 and we used to live in glenelg , its a great place to live if you like the beach and resturants and it gets very busy in summer. glenelg is the best place to go if you want lots of resturants and places to go out at night, places like semaphore and henely beach and seacliff are on the beach but there is less places to eat and go out for a drink etc. Let me know if you wanna know more. i have lived here 3 years in july! :)

Hi there,

We are also a young couple (ish) in our 30's with no kids and looking for something similar close to the beach with some night life. Don't want to live in the city but not to far away (taxi distance).

Does anyone know if there are many jobs in Property Managment or Community Support Work or if anyone is in this line of work, and if so where they are based? have done some research into this but wondered if anyone could shed anymore light on it.

Any info on this would be great Cheers

If your looking for beach + nightlife, glenelg would be the best option. You can catch the tram straight into the CBD, so dont have to worry about driving if you get a job in there. Not quite sure what a taxi to the CBD would cost, probably about $30 - $40 i would guess.

Hope that helps
