hi All

When we eventually emigrate we are planning on taking our car over with us.As we have been told it is a good investment we have a two year old audi which apparently go for a lot more money in queensland than over here and also if you are emigrating you pay no import or custums duty on it ?is this correct does anyone know alsoi spoke to someone else who said that when the car is shipped in a container it has to be in showroom condition underneath the car ie completley free of dirt and muck!!!again can anyone one here clarify this if they have took a car across

many thanks

*CRY* If only this were so....

You have to pay a customs fee, then GST then a million and one other fees... have a look at the thread mentioned above...

Having said that we're still dithering over whether to take ours as we'd about break even given the price of 2nd hand cars over there...

Oh... and yep - it's got to be *clean*... :)

There are a lot of old threads on this and although most people are scared because people on here are quite negative about this subject it worked out well for us when we brought our car over. Our car was a lot older than yours so the customs duty was a lot less than yours would be and ours was a 4x4 which pays only 5% of the customs value rather than 10% for a car. Being a fairly new Audi you will need to be sure it doesn't get stung with luxury car tax as this is quite a lot to pay. Have a look for old threads on this subject and then have a look on the australian government website for further info. But make the decision for yourself and do as much research as possible as each case is totally different and there is a real negative vibe on this site for bringing cars across.

If you do as spottymercedes has suggested and do your research you may well find that it is viable for you,but you may find that it isn't,there is a lot of information available on the internet ,and once you have done your research you can make your own decision without being swayed one way or the other.

In a lot of cases it seems that it may not be worth it,but there would be lots of cases, like that of spottymercedes where it worked out well.

your decision.
