Hi all

We are moving to Melbourne in Feb and are looking at rentals. We like some of the properties in Glen Waverley and it looks pretty good on Google earth.

But we dont have any eal idea of distance,

Can any one tell us how far and how long it takes to get to the CBD and what is public transport like?

Also since we will be working in Box Hill, can we get transport to there easily, how far is it and how long does it take.

Is there anything about Glen Waverley that we should know about, crime etc

Are there ant Brits in Gen Waverley.

We will look around but has anyone got any other ideas about where to live within travelling distance of Box Hill

Cheers

Glen Waverley is a nice area and has a train line into the city.

I am not sure how you would get to Box Hill by train though you may need to drive.

Melbourne is a vast sprawling city so distances that we think are not far you may think are far.

Have a look at this web site for houses in and around Box Hill

Box Hill is an older suburb but very popular.

Hi

We were the same. Wife is nurse and works at epworth in Box Hill, wanted our 12 year old son to go to Glen waverly sec school. Has a train line for CBD and not too far from beach.

Bus is not direct and a fair old way to Box Hill. With a car could maybe take 20-30 mins depending on time of travel and which part. Also it is a good popular school, so rentals can be hard to come by and must be in the correct zone (not even one street away). However, the school was not allowing any more enrolments last year so we started to find more rentals. Either they had great location rubbish house or vice versa.

We ended up in Doncaster East which is further north. Direct buses (even early morning) or 10 mins by car. School was much better and friendlier and has good results. Bit further to beach. No trains or trams, but fairly good busses. Lots of restaurants and shops nearby. Better rentals for the money.

We got fed up looking at rentals then trying to find if bus went there. But we decided on having one car, so wife gets bus in morning and I pick up in evening.

go to melways web site and enter page 62 grid B12 for Glen Waverly - look at the black main roads and the blue numbers are bus routes

http://www.street-directory.com.au/sd_new/mapsearch.cgi

Go to metlink planner

Home - Metlink - Your guide to public transport in Melbourne and Victoria

Add road names and routes will come up. Will show trains, busses and trams if applicable

We live in Blackburn just to the East of Box Hill, good schools similar demographic to Glen Waverley and transport to Box Hill and city is very simple on bus or train. There are a few expats around the Blackburn area. Best area for houses are around the lake or Laburnum.

Hi

We're in Glen Waverley and we love it. The CBD is only about 37 minute train ride and as it's the start of the line you always get a seat.

We have a rental, but it's quite hard to get a new build, we found ours while we were still in the UK!!

Glen Waverley is very quite and it has a good shopping centre (The Glen). There is also a good swimming pool for kids, but not many pubs!! (which we really miss!!) It's only a 30 minute car ride to the city too.

Hope this helps

I live in Heathmont, near Ringwood, and these are both train lines to Box Hill, on the main eastern train line (Lilydale and Belgrave, they split at Ringwood). About 45 mins to the city, but less to Box Hill which is a major transport hub/shopping complex with buses which go to Glen Waverley, Blackburn, and Doncaster/Templestowe.

There is some good buying at Heathmont at the moment, I can walk to the train station, there are two massive shopping complexes (Eastland and Westfield Knox) and a short drive to the Yarra Valley wineries etc. North Ringwood is also nice, bus to Box Hill.

Check out Heathmont on realestate.com.au

cheers

If you have Google Earth then you can work out distances and travelling times very simply.

On the LHS of the screen, click on the directions tab.

Stick in two addresses in the from and to fields, hit enter or the magnifying glass and bobs yer uncle.

It shows you the route just like a satnav does, tells you how long it will take, and you can even do a flyby of the route so you can recognise it. If you were a bird that is:wink:
