Hi Emily,

Just a bit of advice (I just finished my studies in Melbourne).

When your looking for a job, try and get work in a Salon straight away and start doing your hours, also, if they can, try and get them to put 20 hours exactly on your pay slip. It will help your work experience points if your planning on PR.

Good Luck

Know what you mean.

Our medicals and police checks etc were lodged in May09 (for Regional Sponsored 475 visa), still waiting confirmation. Sold house (exchange contracts soon), no job to go to! Still why get bogged down with the small details.

Looking to move to Ballarat/Bendigo/Geelong or wherever I can get a job.

Good luck and all the best!

Cheers

Well good luck job hunting, that will be my next step, but at least i've managed to update the old CV (it was over 8 year out of date so total re-write).

Slight movement, Police checks come through, no suprises luckily :-)

Also, completed medicals which have been done & gone off, so just awaiting the final confirmation.

House sale complete and living as tenents in the house next door! The new buyers were suprised, but it sooo weird living next to you old house you used to own!

Fingers crossed the jobs front & exchange rates improve!

I originally started this in migration issues but thought that i`d put the same one in each state so that you can all see whose heading where and get advice from people heading to the same state as you!

hi - hope its ok to post here. Congrats on your visa. I am beginning the visa process for a 176 family sponsored visa and heading to victoria. Could you tell me the timeline its taken you all? I am being slightly disheartened on imiigration as its posting 3 yrs turn around. We are on a SOL job list and have 105 points. Many of the other posts I have read arein different states and you are all victoria and wondered if the time line is different. thanks for you help

We came over on a 457 visa which is the employer sponsered visa. It lasts for up to 4 years but you can apply for permanent residency any time after 3 months and my employer will sponser me for that too. The whole process for us was really quick. I got my job offer first in Jan09 and agreed with my employer that I would start work Sep/Oct 09. We started the visa application in May 09 and that was all completed by the middle of Jun 09. Immigration then told us that as my sponser had put a provisional start date of 7 Sep they could only issue the visa and give us a definate yes or no a month earlier so we then had to wait until 7 Aug before they would tell us if we had the visa or not!!! Very frustrating!! It was a yes and here we are and having a great time!!!

Good luck with your application - try not to get too frustrated with the red tape - it will be worth it in the end

Carol
