Guest Aldo
Does anyone have any idea of the cost of buying property in Brisbane. For example here in Spain the rule of thumb is +10% of property value to cover conveyancing, land registry ect...
Guest Nelson
On a property already built of, say, $400,000 stamp duty would be almost $13,000, legals $500-550. You may want surveys, reports etc which vary enormously. Budget $2K. Moving, another $1000+.. can't thnk of anything else...
Guest Aldo
Thank Krista, do you know if stamp duty is payable for "first time buyers" and being new to Oz would we be classed as such?
Guest Nelson
In Victoria, there is a first home buyers grant totalling $12,000 made upof $5000 from the State Government and $7000 from the Federal Government. I'm sure a look at the QLD website will confirm it! Good luck! The other thing to consider is that if you buy a plot of land that hasn't had any building started on it, you only pay stamp duty on the land, not the total. You can save a lot of money there, but usually spend it on landscaping, driveways and stuff like that that isn't generally included in a house and land package...
