South african Indians and Racism in Australia

Hi

Are there any South African Indians in the process of moving or have already moved down under? I am an Indian formally from Durban South Africa and was wondering about racism in schools etc.My oldest son is 14 and a dark skinned Indian(from a previous relationship)My 14 yr old and I always get mistaken for a Stri Lankan and my 3 other sons are mixed indian and portuguese. My second son has blueish green eyes and the other 2 are brown eyed and have a tanned look which I think is gorgeous.A lot of people spend hours baking in the sun trying to get the perfect tan and my boys get picked on for having it,They are all beautiful boys and I want to know how bad is the racism in school. My oldest boy was bullied quite a lot in a previous school and that shattered his confidence.I am not a racist and always try to find the positive in any negative situation.I know racism exists in every country but has anyone had any experiences that could be shared to enlighten me on what I can expect.

Hubby does vetassess practical in February so we still have along road ahead of us.

Any thoughts

Kind Regard

There are a lot of mixed race children in Australia, my son's has several friends of different nationality and they are just his friendsa no lables. My neighbour is a Filipino married to an Australian and they have two children and they do not experience any discrimination as far as I am aware.

Some of the schools here have every nationality you can think of in them.

Sri Lankans and Indian people are well accepted here and are mainly professional people. Lots of specialist doctors who are Asian.

I think being a migrant whoever you are is always hard and fitting in is difficult but there are a lots of migrants here and lots of clubs and things to help.

Where are you thinking of settling?

I guess even if you are white but not Australian you will be a victim of 'being different'.

Colour has always been a target for small minded people who see themselves as being better than you because they are 'normal'.

All you can do is be thick skinned and don't fall for childish behaviour.

Hi

Thanks for your responses,I have grown a thick skin and helping the kids grow one too,I teach them to be positive and always look for the positive in any situation. We were thinking of going to South Australia to get hubby`s electrician licence and then I suppose its wherever he gets a good paying job.

Kind Regards
