Laura Jayne R
Hi All, I am a 32 year old, British Citizen with a fiancé and a young child. We would like to relocate to Australia as a family. I am an experienced merchandiser and demand planner (which isn't a recognised skilled job in Aus) and my partner is a sales manager for a Freight Forwarder. As we have a dependant, we cant go on a working visa and as I'm not a skilled worker, I'm not sure where to go. We are really keen to make a move before we get 'too old'. We are happy to consider anything, like possibility to retrain etc. Can anyone help with: Which Visa might work? A recommendation for an immigration company who could answer my questions? Anyone been in a similar situation and successfully got in? thank you!!
AndrewMcD
So the bad news first, as you no doubt know getting a visa for Australia is difficult, takes time and is expensive. Typically the Government grants visas to migrants because they have family here or because they satisfy an economic need. That economic need can be niche or valuable skills (tech, medicine for example) or people willing to live regionally. If you can fit into one of those boxes then you can apply. But the process is very competitive and when you apply for a points tested visa you are often competing against people who have been working towards an Australian visa since leaving school and have specifically gone to an Australian Uni and have worked in Australia to boost their points. The good news is that it is difficult but not impossible. Sales and Marketing Manager is a job that is on the short term skills list and seems to be eligible for both the Short Term employee sponsored visa and the independent regional migration visa. The Regional visa is points tested, subject to invitation rounds and probably harder to get but - once awarded - carries a clear path to PR. Employee sponsored is a straightforward visa to get (by comparison), assuming your husband can find an employer in Australia who is willing to offer him a job and sponsor him. It does have a path to PR but it is not guaranteed and subject to change. A consult with a migration agent is a sensible next step, they can give specific advice. Personally I'd avoid going down the retraining route though - you need a number of years experience post qualification to get the points. So you could end up spending 3 years getting a qualification, 4 years working that job and then you're looking to apply just before you turn 40 and your points drop off anyway... So I would investigate whether your partner could qualify for a skilled visa. As Andrew says, I wouldn't waste time trying to work it out for yourself, because the rules are changing all the time and there's a lot of outdated info on the net: if you are serious about moving, book a consultation with a good migration agent and get the up-to-date, accurate situation. Try Suncoast Migration or Go Matlida. If it turns out that your only option is for one of you to retrain, it's really important to choose something you want to do for a living -- because there is NO guarantee that any occupation will still be on the list in 5 or 6 years' time, when you've finally gained enough qualifications and experience to apply for a visa. For instance, a lot of people assumed Australia would always want nurses, but before the pandemic, they were thinking of taking them off the list (the pandemic changed that!). It would be a shame to put in all that effort, find your chosen occupation has been taken off the lists, then be stuck in a job you don't really like in the UK. wrussell
May I suggest that you consult one of the registered migration agents who posts on this forum for a case assessment?
