miss.sunshine
Hi everyone! I'm currently looking at applying for the Skilled Independent Migration Visa 189 (Hong Kong stream). However, it says that if I've had a previous visa cancelled, it might affect my eligibility. I was granted a 457 (employer sponsored) visa in 2010. In 2011 I left my job voluntarily and, obviously, my 457 got cancelled. I never overstayed my visa and I ended up leaving Australia for a few years. I then re-entered the country on a student visa, and after that I got my post-graduate 485 visa, which is the visa I'm on right now. My question is, will my previous 457 visa cancellation affect my eligibility for the 189 visa? It seems a bit unfair if it does, as my previous visa didn't get cancelled because I did something illegal or immoral. It was simply because I'd decided to leave my job at the time. Thank you very much for your help.
Ausvisitor
I think you are fine, in this case they are using the word cancelled to mean "rescinded by the department for wrong doing" Yours was more ceased due to no longer being needed
