Aussiebird
Hi all, If you buy a property in WA (mortgage free) but leave it unoccupied for a few months, do you have to pay council tax on it still or pay any other rates/charges? Many thanks.
Drumbeat
Yes, you will still have to pay council rates and water rates (if it's connected to mains water). Even an empty block of land incurs council and water rates.

Is there a website where we can check prices or does it depend on size of property etc? Are the details told by a estate agent upon purchase? Many thanks. Council rates vary between councils/shires and also between properties. The annual amount is often included in the listing but if not, the real estate agent can tell you the amount. The shire we live in have particularly high rates and as we're on a large block our rates are nearly $3000 a year Edited April 21, 2019 by Drumbeat
