Janette
Hi can we live in Australia while we are waiting for our permanent parent visa to be accepted?
rammygirl
That will depend where you applied from. If you applied whilst in Australia you should have been granted a bridging visa to allow you to stay once your visit visa expired. If you applied from the UK, then you may visit on an extended tourist visa for up to 12 months in any 18, in other words you could stay for a year then have to leave for 6 months before returning. You may have to leave Australia in order to be granted an offshore visa too so you should let immigration know your plans.
s713
My MIL is here on a parent visa application. She has a bridging visa whilst she waits for the parent visa to be granted. However, last time she spoke to the department, they advised her that might be 17 years! So, any time she wants to leave the country, she has to get some kind of stamp in her passport. And obvs, she can't work or claim anything.
