Australian school year/ages

Help please, lovely people. We are due to move to Melbourne from the UK in January 2019. I'm trying to find out what school year my daughter will be in. She will be 8 in June 2019. In the uk she is in year 3. Will she start in year 3 or year 2 in Australia?

In 2019 she will be in year 2 because she turns 8 after 30 April

But you must not feel she has gone back a year. Remember the year starts in January here so six months at best.  That is good time to adjust to a different education system and make some friends without too much pressure to catch up, which is what she would have to do if she started in year 3 (6 months early). She will be in the correct age range with her peers too.

Absolutely!!!! Foreign country different education system! Don't get hung up on the year labels!!!
