489/190 visa holders need to meet their obligations

Immigration Minister David Coleman says he is looking "very closely" to provide incentives and simplifying the visa process to get more migrants to move outside of the major cities.

Mr Coleman says giving immigrants good reasons to move to regional areas and ensuring they remain living where they said they will is key.

"It's also about ensuring that that's followed through upon. Obviously if people come on a visa that's meant to be based in a regional area then compliance needs to be there to make that happen."

seems like they are going to encourage people to move to regional areas rather than forcing.

They should have more strict laws for pr holders who dont stick to their commitments,

The 489 isn't an issue really as people can't move onto a PR visa without meeting their obligations. I can see the 190 being scrapped.

I still cnt understand why the states are not issuing more 489s.

Yep the 190 either needs a complete overhaul with tighter regulation on visa holders or a new visa stream entirely.
