MillieB
Has anyone with health issues had problems passing their medical? I am 57 years old and have osteo arthritis in my hands. It doesn't impact on my day to day living. I work full time and I am very active, not having any sick leave from work for over 20 years. Also, two years ago I had a small malignant melanoma removed. It didn't involve any further treatment and I was discharged. Any advice would be gratefully appreciated.

I'm not an expert, but I don't think you will have any problem. There are really looking for anything which is going to be expensive for the Aussie taxpayer. I have seen somewhere online the guidelines for doctors and it's not a straight pass or fail, just 'A' or 'B' for each health test. I think you can still pass with a few 'B's so probably nothing to worry about. When did you apply for your visa?
MillieB
Thanks for your comments. We haven’t applied yet, just looking into it. Our son and partner are permanent residents and have been in WA for 4 years. We visit yearly and have completely fallen in love with Oz. Quoll
Cancer can be tricky, I thought they expect 5 years remission but that may well have changed. Usual advice is to talk to one of the agents who specialise George Lombard, Peter Bollard and Richard Gregan are usually mentioned as the guys to ask. MillieB
Thanks Quoll. The only treatment I had was removal of the mole and surrounding tissue. I then had 3 monthly checks on that and all my moles for 12 months before being discharged. I think I’d better do as you say and talk to one of the immigration specialists. Emmys Gran
To be honest the way the queue is going for the 143 visa you’ll be well past five years before you have the medical and your application is looked at
SusieRoo
Yes, if you are just applying now, it's going to be at least 5/6 years (or more) until you will be called for a medical. So I would not worry now and paying for additional tests now may not be of any use by the time you are assessed. Best to get the application in as soon as possible as the queue is growing very, very quickly and delaying now by a few months can add a year onto the processing time. The whole parent visa process is a mess at the moment and is likely to change significantly with some categories closing. So this is another good reason to make the application without delay.
