sis66
I became 65 years young in February 2018 and have been staying in Melbourne since September 2017 on a 1 year tourist visa. Both my children live in Australia with one having citizenship. I would like to apply for permanency as I have been travelling to Australia off and on since 2005 and now I am retired feel the time is right for me to move out here. I was thinking of applying for the 864 Contributory Aged Parent Visa as I understand there is less of a wait for this visa to be granted. I would be grateful if anyone who has experience of applying for this visa could give me advice on possible timescales and costs involved. Thanks. wrussell
You would need to budget about $60 000 to cover the visa application charges (first and second instalments) the Medicae bond and ancillary charges, such as medical examination, police clearances and so on. sis66
Thank you Wrusell. Is it worth me going through an agent or can it be done easily on line and do you know what the time scales are? Many thanks.
wrussell
In my professional opinion anyone applying for any Australian visa should consult a registered migration agent for at least a preliminary assessment. To be granted a visa applicants must meet all the criteria. To be refused all they need to do is get one thing wrong. Here is a table from the Administrative Appeals Tribunal. This table refers only to refused applications that were reviewable and went to review. Many visa refusal decisions are not reviewable on the merits, typically where the applicant was not sponsored and applied offshore. ************************************************************************************************************************************ The table is a guide only and does not guarantee that any individual matter will be heard in these timeframes. Processing times for decisions made between 1/11/17 and 30/04/18 Calendar days from lodgement to decision Case category Decisions Within 365 days Average Median Bridging 209 97% 38 12 Visitor 688 95% 208 231 Student refusal 1,956 28% 411 443 Temporary work 580 47% 381 383 Permanent business 341 63% 303 256 Skill linked 309 73% 285 267 Partner 1,226 34% 418 420 Family 230 44% 389 388 Student cancellation 222 53% 321 355 Nomination/Sponsor approval 742 36% 436 449 Protection 2,638 67% 292 235 Other 72 94% 131 88 By Migration/Refugee case type Migration 6,575 47% 361 387 Refugee 2,638 67% 292 235 Total 9,213 53% 341 348 864 cannot be applied for online.
