oliver27
Hey, I’m planning to move to Australia permanently in around 6 months. Plan to rent first of all, and eventually own a home within a couple of years. I have a good credit rating in the U.K., but does this start from square one when moving to Australia? If so, will this affect my ability to get things such as bank accounts, credit cards, mobile phone contracts, and car loans, etc. And can anyone recommend ways to quickly build credit? What have other people done on the forum in a similar situation? Appreciate any advice!
Marisawright
There's no need. Credit ratings don't work the same in Australia. If you've got a job, you won't have any trouble opening a bank account, getting a credit card etc etc. Your mortgage will be based on your salary, end of story. calNgary
Lots of migrants find it easier to open an Aussie bank account prior to moving. Doing this also allows you to move funds over when the interest rate is working in your favour. You have to build your credit rating up from scratch once here but it shouldnt affect you get a mobile phone etc as thousands of us dd just that .
