Hi All, what is the visa from which I can claim 5 points from my sister who is citizen in Australia and living in Melbourne. I want to apply for a skilled visa , have enough experience and relevant qualification but not sure from which visa type I can get those 5 points from.

I already have a job and work only 15 kilometres from Melbourne CBD.

I also live 30 kms from CBD

so in order to apply for a visa from which I can get those 5 points from. will I need to live in a low population area ?

does my sister also have to be living in a low population area in order to provide me 5 points ?

Am I eligible for 489 or 189 visa?

please tell me all the options.

thanks

I think the family sponsored option is the 489 visa. It’s a provisional visa but can lead to a PR visa if you live and work in a regional area for 2 years. The 189 or 190 visa doesn’t give points for family in Australia

if i apply for 489 visa and want to live in low population area, can my sister still sponsor me even though she doesn't live in low population area? she lives near Melbourne CBD

For the 489 Visa, the Invited pathway states (https://www.homeaffairs.gov.au/Trav/Visa-1/489-#tab-content-0)

You 'will be sponsored by an eligible relative living in a designated area of Australia'.

You must be prepared to live, work and study in only certain areas of Australia. If you are sponsored by a relative, this is a designated area of Australia.

Reading from the above, both the sponsor and applicant must live in a 'designated area of Australia'

However, is you look at the link below, 'Designated Area' covers all of Victoria

Doesn't QLD also exclude the gold coast?

Different criteria depending on if you were sponsored by a state/territory or by a relative. If by a relative then it's a 'Designated area' (above) if it's state/territory, then it's a 'regional low-population growth metropolitan area' (below)
