My Story on our recent move back to the UK!

I had a look for the post and couldn't find it but no matter - it is probably not the easiest of work to get anywhere, I am slightly trying to move him towards Zoology or Veterinary Science as only Bangor University offer Herpetology and it would be better if he went to University in Scotland (no fees!) plus it gives wider options - he is only 13 so I'm worrying unnecessarily! He'll probably end up back at Computer Science, although given that's what both his parents did it rather lacks imagination! As a dual citizen he can take up the opportunities when & wherever they rise in whatever he ends up choosing.

My real point was that I do not think anyone can make a blanket statement that there are more opportunities in one country or the other as it depends in what field. Not specifically aimed at you just joining in the general debate.

I love reptiles so don't get me wrong but it really is too specialised, as you say Zoology would be a far better option overall even if he decided to specialise after getting his degree.

Yes absolutely, how often do you hear people say ' oh there are so many more opportunities in Australia'. 20 years ago e end I would have agreed.

I'm not sure how you can say kids can't make it here, we have friends with young working age kids

and they are doing fine, one joined the navy and drives a nearly new Mercedes. The others are doing

really well.

Did you actually tea what I said about my daughter ? ...she has a job for life ,with a vast array of career paths .

But she will need to meet someone on equal or higher salary to get a start .

The kids in north America are in the same boat .

I was just asking if the same was happening I oz that's all .

When I was in oz in the early ...couples could have a block and house paid off in 5 years...that was the norm .

All comes back to the same thing for me ..

GLOBALISATION has ****ed it for this generation .

How can you plan and save for the future ,when the " proper" jobs in " proper" industries and careers ,have been decimated ....time to turn the ship around

My kids who range in ages from 35 to 43 have all 'made it' if you put it that way but the ones who haven't are the next lot now in their early 20s- very, very hard for them and I feel really sick when I hear of people buying up multiple properties just for investment. I hate negative gearing and think it should be abolished immediately- no one should own more than 2 houses when there are youngsters struggling to even get a little unit.

What I was trying to point out starlight ,is that since globalisation kicked in ,the world of work in the western world has changed massively .

There has definitely been a cut off ....so its happening across the western world ...sad

Certainly not the norm now. The couple that bought our house in Brisbane had to borrow most of the deposit from parents as well as a sizeable mortgage. The days of paying a mortgage off in a few years are gone for most people.
