MaggieMay24 Posted June 26, 2016 Share Posted June 26, 2016 If you are short on points for a skilled visa, there is a family-sponsored 489 which gives an additional 10 points. However there are several limitations: - it's a temporary visa so you'd need to then qualify for a 887 permanent visa (or other permanent visa) before the 4 years of the 489 run out - your sponsor and you must live only in a regional area and you need to work at least 1 year in a regional area to qualify for the 887 - they only send out 5-10 invitations for 489s each invitation round so it may be quite a wait to get an invitation. If you think a 489 is your only option, it may be worth a consultation with a migration agent to assess whether you've overlooked a better option or to at least make sure you're well sorted for the 489.
