Any Advice for student? my company wants to sponsor me... i have no idea how

Hi everyone! Great Forum here

I've been told by one of my friends (who is a member on here) to hopefully get some advice.

In a nut shell, I'm a British student 25, studying Sport & Recreation in brissy for the last 3 years, I've been working up to my 20 hours for a company for nearly 3 years too.

They really like me and they really want to sponsor me, but i have no qualifications to count towards a visa.

I basically run a warehouse which produces a bespoke product and we ship it all over Australia and overseas. Its weird because, even though I cant do more than my stated hours, they've put me in charge of other workers, so i gather they really trust me and they do want me there permanently.

Is there any way they can sponsor me? or put me through an apprenticeship of some sort? Ive been looking through the site and everyone else's situation is different to mine.

I hope to get a few answers and advice. I really appreciate you reading through this, I hope there is hope for me.

Kind Regards

Gib

You could look at the requireents for a 457 visa (temp 4 year working visa) but i think it is unlikely

https://www.border.gov.au/Trav/Visa-1/457-

Your role would need to be on the CSOL and looking quickly I can't see anything likely - Production Manager (Manufacturing) possibly??

I don't think you would meet the skills requirement though - from what I can tell you need a degree or 5 years experience.

https://www.border.gov.au/Trav/Work/Work/Skills-assessment-and-assessing-authorities/skilled-occupations-lists/CSOL

You could stay on for 6 months on a WHV, go off and do farm work and then return for another 6 months but I don't think that would help you much.

At the end of the end permanent migration to Australia is for skilled people & three years part-time experience however good you are and however much they like you isn't considered sufficiently skilled - I'm curious about your course though & why you studied in Australia - is it possible you have another route to a visa?

oo thanks for the reply Lady Rainicorn

coming out here to study was something i really wanted to do, so i quit my FLT job and came over here to study.

Quite right, it looks as though the only production managing is for mining.

HWV would be an option but then i'd only be allow to work at a company for 6 months and have to change, including the 3 months farming i'd have to do.

Do you know of whether you can do an apprenticeship on a student visa, for example, wall and floor tiling, (as this is on the skills list)

I'm willing to continue studying here for the next 4/5 years as long it'll enable me to stay in oz by the end of it.

Thanks very much

cheers!

I havnt a clue about whether western australia is different to the east side, but i've found this online

http://www.migration.wa.gov.au/services/skilled-migration-wa/occupations-in-demand

and it appears that its on the skills list in WA - production managing (manufacturing) Not mining

Im hoping someone on here with more knowledge could shed more light on this for you.....

.... do you think i have a case wrussell seen as youre a migration agents. whats your initial thoughts?

thanks

I would recommend an initial assessment with wrussell which you can do by following his signature link. In our case I was quite far down the road with me as the primary applicant but I wanted to check I was on the right track and it helped me progress the EOI.

It emerged that there was actually a totally different option where my wife could have been the main applicant via sibling in South Australia which we may have gone down if we had known earlier.

No guarantees, but I found it to be a wise investment.
