heavy1000
Hello everyone, Need some advise that I am unable find the answer to. I have a valid 175 independent visa, it is expiring next year in August, thanks to a growing family over the last 5 years followed by a job glut, I have been unable to use it. Luckily I was accepted young and still get good points for age and skilled work that I am still eligible for a 189 visa. It is very likely that I will have a job offer in 2017. What I need to know is, can I re-apply for a 189 after not using my 175? Is it possible to apply before my 175 expires? Predicting the long process times and 2017 need? Any advice or experiences are really welcome and much appreciated. Regards Peter
Marisawright
Any chance you could visit Australia to activate your existing visa? I don't think the 175 visa is offered any more, so if you don't use this one, you can't get another one. If you let your existing visa lapse, you'd go for a 189. No idea whether not using the 175 would count against you.

No it doesn't count against them, they just have to say when asked that they applied for it and it was granted, and that it expired rather than being cancelled.
