Hospital Parking

Staff parking fees started around 1996 where I worked. even though it started at only 20p a day, I was furious at having to pay to park at work, that never changed!! Of course the 20p rapidly increased! By the time I left the NHS I was having money taken out of my wages to pay an extortionate amount for my parking permit! We also had to apply for a permit, stating where we lived, anyone living within 5 miles of the hospital were not given a permit, they were expected to use public transport. They even started up a bicycle purchase scheme!

I worked in ITU and we would take car registrations from relatives of very sick patients who were on the unit for long periods and ring the porters who would ensure they weren't given tickets from the private firm who managed the car parks!
